2023 Wells Fargo Championship Purse and Payouts: How Much Money Will the Winner Take Home?
If you’re not a die-hard golf fan, you probably haven’t paid much attention to the PGA Tour over the last two weeks. And I can’t blame you. The Zurich Classic of New Orleans was a gimmick event played in teams of two, and the Mexico Open at Vidanta featured just nine players ranked inside the top 100 in the Official World Golf Ranking. Because both tournaments were non-elevated events, many of the top golfers in the world took a two-week break.
Well, it’s time to start paying attention to the PGA Tour again, because the elevated event schedule is back this week with the Wells Fargo Championship. Sixteen of the top 20 players in the OWGR will be teeing it up at Quail Hollow Club this year, and the record-setting purse is a big reason why.

The winner of the Wells Fargo Championship will bank $3.6 million
It’s been a dull last two weeks on the PGA Tour, but we should be in for a good one this week at the Wells Fargo Championship. World No. 1 Jon Rahm and World No. 2 Scottie Scheffler are taking the week off, but 16 of the top 20 players in the OWGR will tee it up at Quail Hollow.
Leading the pack is World No. 3 Rory McIlroy, who will be making his first start since his disappointing missed cut at the Masters last month. The Northern Irishman, who’s won this event three times in his career, has been pegged as a +700 betting favorite to make it a fourth.
Right behind McIlroy on the odds board are Patrick Cantlay (+1300), Viktor Hovland (+1400), Xander Schauffele (+1700), and Mexico Open champion Tony Finau (+1700).
The reason for the strong field this week is the $20 million purse up for grabs at Quail Hollow, the largest in tournament history. On Sunday afternoon, the winner will go home with a whopping $3.6 million.
