NFL: The 5 Teams That Win the Most During the Postseason

The 2015 NFL Playoffs’ Wild-card weekend saw a new squad emerge as the winningest postseason team in NFL history. Said team went on to battle another one of the five winningest postseason franchises in league history in the divisional round, which saw the first squad go down in defeat but remain at the top of this list. While this team may currently have a firm grasp on this enviable title, there are several squads right on its heels that could potentially overtake it in the next couple of years.

Without further ado, here are the five winningest postseason teams in NFL history.

5. New England Patriots [tie]

  • Postseason wins: 25
  • Super Bowl appearances: 8
  • Super Bowl wins: 4

The Patriots are in the midst of one of the longest-running dynasties in league history. With Tom Brady at quarterback and Bill Belichick as the team’s head coach, the Patriots have made 12 postseason appearances in 14 years.

4. Green Bay Packers [tie]

  • Postseason wins: 30
  • Super Bowl appearances: 5
  • Super Bowl wins: 4

The Packers always seem to look primed to make a serious run at winning their fifth Super Bowl title in franchise history. So far, success has eluded them since their 2011 victory over the Steelers.

3.  San Francisco 49ers

  • Postseason wins: 31
  • Super Bowl appearances: 6
  • Super Bowl wins: 5

The 49ers won a lot of games — regular season and postseason — in the 1980s and 1990s. They are currently in the market for a new head coach but do still have an extremely talented roster that is fully capable of returning to the playoffs next season.

2. Pittsburgh Steelers

  • Postseason wins: 33
  • Super Bowl appearances: 8
  • Super Bowl wins: 6

The Steelers lost to the Baltimore Ravens on wild-card weekend, and will have to wait until next season to try and add to their postseason win total. However, the Steelers do still hold the record for the most Super Bowl victories by a single franchise in NFL history.

1. Dallas Cowboys

  • Postseason wins: 34
  • Super Bowl appearances: 8
  • Super Bowl wins: 5

With their victory over the Detroit Lions on wild-card weekend, the Cowboys jumped into sole possession of first place on the all-time postseason wins list. Then, faced with the unenviable task of taking on Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers in the divisional round of the playoffs, Tony Romo and company fell victim to some questionable refereeing and an overturned catch.

This Cowboys team has proven that it can play with any squad in the league, and if they are able to earn a berth in Super Bowl 50, they will also own the NFL record for most Super Bowl appearances by a single franchise in NFL history.
