A Look Back When Tracy McGrady Did the Unthinkable During a Game

Tracy McGrady is one of the best scorers in NBA history. Injuries cut his career short and if it wasn’t for the injuries who knows what else he could have accomplished during his career. The Hall of Fame star made some impressive plays during his time in the league.

When he was a member of the Houston Rockets, he put on a show on the court in less than a minute. Something that no one saw coming.

McGrady’s career in Houston

The Houston Rockets were the third team that McGrady played for during his career. He was already one of the top players in the league at the time, and he was only getting better. McGrady made the all-star team and was a member of multiple All-NBA teams during his time in Houston.

He averaged 20 or more points four times while he was a member of the Rockets. In his first year with the Rockets, he averaged 25.7 points per game. McGrady knew how to score. At 6-foot-8, the talented forward knew how to create his own shot and shoot over his defender. Not to mention, he knew how to get to the rim and finish with contact.

McGrady dealt with some significant injuries during his time in Houston, and he had to miss some considerable time. He still was a key player and was vital to the Rocket’s success during his time there.

Tracy McGrady’s fourth-quarter performance against San Antonio

It was McGrady’s first season playing with the Rockets as they hosted the San Antonio Spurs in December of 2004. The Rockets were down 76-68 with 35 seconds left in the game. That’s when McGrady took over. He would hit four consecutive 3-pointers, one of which resulted in a four-point play, to help the Rockets defeat the Spurs 81-80.

You would have to see it to believe it. McGrady was in another zone during those final seconds of the game. He had the mentality that he was going to put the team on his back and carry them to victory. That’s exactly what he did.

How someone can score that many points in that given amount of time was unheard of. But if anyone could do it, McGrady was the person to do so. He finished with 33 points that game, and he single-handedly beat a good Spurs team that night.

A moment in basketball that people will never forget

That night McGrady scored 13 points in 35 seconds, happened 14 years ago, and is still one of the best performances in the NBA to this day. Watching the highlights of the game, you feel that you were actually in the arena as everything is happening.

McGrady had some great games during his career and has also wowed fans with his basketball abilities. But you can argue that this moment is at the top of the list when you talk about the greatest performances from McGrady. When you look at other NBA greats, they don’t have a performance that compares to McGrady’s.

That lets you see how dominant he was during his time in the league. There was a time when he was top two in the league, and the other person was Kobe Bryant. McGrady took his game to another level as he matured and gained experience while playing in the NBA. This performance will be talked about for years to come.
