Aaron Rodgers Caps off His Historic MVP Season With a Life-Changing Announcement

Ahead of the 2020 season, many people had wondered whether Aaron Rodgers was still one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL or not. He was 36 years old for most of the season, so some fans questioned if Father Time had potentially caught up to him. However, he proved all of them wrong by having arguably the best season of his career in 2020 with the Green Bay Packers.

He ultimately capped off his historic season in a big way, too, as Rodgers recently made a life-changing announcement while receiving his league MVP award. So, what did he announce? Apparently, Aaron Rodgers is engaged.

Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers had an excellent season in 2019. Green Bay went 13-3 and reached the NFC Championship Game. However, while Rodgers still had great numbers, they were a far cry from some of his best seasons. He threw for 4,002 yards, 26 touchdowns, and four interceptions.

In 2020, though, Rodgers was unstoppable. He threw for 4,299 yards, an NFL-leading 48 touchdown passes, and only five interceptions. Rodgers also led the league in interception percentage and completion percentage. In fact, his 70.7% completion percentage was actually his highest mark since becoming a starter for the Packers in 2008. Additionally, Rodgers’ 48 TD passes are tied for the fifth-most in a single-season in NFL history.

Green Bay was, of course, really good again in 2020, too. For the second consecutive season, the Packers went 13-3 and reached the NFC Championship Game. The Packers, however, barely lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 31-26.

Rodgers’ stellar play and Green Bay’s success led to Rodgers winning his third NFL MVP award. He is now tied for second-most MVP awards in NFL history with Tom Brady, Johnny Unitas, Brett Favre, and Jim Brown. Peyton Manning is the only person with more, as he won five.

He already recently hinted about a potential life-changing event

Despite the great year, Rodgers and the Packers had a disappointing end to their 2020 season, as they barely fell short of missing the Super Bowl.

This led to him hinting about a major life-changing event potentially taking place for him in the near future.

“[The Packers have] a lot of guys’ futures that are uncertain — myself included,” Rodgers said after the NFC Championship Game, according to ESPN. “That’s what’s sad about it, most, getting this far. Obviously, it’s going to be an end at some point, whether we make it past this one or not, but just the uncertainty’s tough and finality of it all.”

However, he has since said, “I don’t think that there’s any reason why I wouldn’t be back,” on The Pat McAfee Show. Packers team president Mark Murphy also said, “there’s no way in heck that Aaron is not going to be on the Packers,” via USA Today’s Packers Wire. But with the team drafting Jordan Love in the 2020 NFL draft, many people believe that Rodgers and the Packers could part ways sometime soon. It just probably won’t take place this offseason.

So, while it doesn’t appear that Rodgers’ job title as Green Bay Packers quarterback will change in the coming months, he still recently made a life-changing announcement.

The NFL announced that Rodgers won the league MVP award on Feb. 6 during NFL Honors. While giving his acceptance speech, though, Rodgers subtly slid in a life-changing announcement.

“2020 was definitely a crazy year, filled with lots of change, growth, some amazing, memorable moments,” he said, via the NFL’s Twitter account. “A hundred and eighty straight days of having my nose hairs scraped. Playing for very little fans or no stands the entire season. I got engaged, and I played some of the best football of my career.”

He didn’t stop there, though. While giving out all of his thank-yous, Rodgers made sure to include “my fiancée.”

So, who is Rodgers engaged to? Well, Rodgers previously dated Olivia Munn and Danica Patrick. According to Showbiz CheatSheet, though, rumors began popping up a few months after he broke up with Patrick in 2020 that he had been dating actor Shailene Woodley. Their romantic relationship was then confirmed earlier in February 2021. So, while Rodgers didn’t specifically say who his fiancée is, Woodley appears to be the lucky woman.

The announcement shocked many people on Twitter, too. Francesca Mariano of Barstool Sports tweeted, “Hold up Aaron Rodgers said FIANCÉ???? He’s marrying Shailene Woodley?!?” This was while ESPN’s Brooke Pryor had a message for the host of NFL Honors, “Announce Aaron Rodgers fiancée, Steve Harvey.”

Aaron Rodgers certainly knows how to play football at a high level. However, he also knows how to break the internet with subtle comments about his life. Congrats to him on a big year.
