Aaron Rodgers Just Gave Packers Fans a Reason to Hope: ‘It’s a Work in Progress’

Since star quarterback Aaron Rodgers returned to the Green Bay Packers, it’s created lingering concerns over his long-term future. Rodgers has only expressed that his focus remains fixated toward the 2021 season. However, the three-time league MVP recently made some telling comments about his relationship with the front office.

Aaron Rodgers finally returns to the Packers

After months of uncertainty concerning Rodgers’ future, the star quarterback returned to the Packers.

The two sides worked toward restructuring the contractual standing to garnering more control over his future beyond the 2021 season. The reworked deal includes voiding the 2023 year, agreeing to review the situation at the end of the 2021 campaign, and adding mechanisms to address the star quarterback’s issues with the team.

Rodgers may be back in the fold, but it comes with lingering uncertainty beyond this year. However, the future Hall of Famer just voiced some promising remarks regarding his relationship with the franchise.

With Rodgers back in the fold, the Packers hope to move forward with him as the franchise centerpiece.

Much of it hinges on his relationship with the front office, which has been the point of conflict. During a press conference on Wednesday, Rodgers voiced his standing with general manager Brian Gutekunst is taking steps in the right direction.

“I think it’s a work in progress for sure,” Rodgers said, via Ryan Wood of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. “I think relationships aren’t formed in a matter of a couple days. There’s time where respect grows, and the communication follows.”

Although these are not the most encouraging comments from Rodgers, it does indicate things are moving well. Given what transpired over the last several months, it will take some time for the respect and communication to grow stronger.

The 37-year-old still holds a tremendously strong connection with his teammates and the fan base. Meanwhile, the organization is trying to appease Rodgers by giving him more control of his contract situation after the 2021 season. The front office also worked out a trade to bring back wide receiver Randall Cobb, with who the three-time league MVP fostered a strong connection over the years.

In short, Green Bay is taking progressive steps toward mending the relationship with Rodgers. Only time will tell if it will lead to a long-term standing beyond this upcoming season.

Green Bay set for an all-or-nothing 2021 season

Beyond the continued strides toward strengthening the relationship with Rodgers, the Packers are heading toward a make-or-break 2021 season.

The 37-year-old’s increased control over his NFL future underlines the importance of how this upcoming campaign unfolds. After back-to-back NFC championship game appearances, Green Bay will have its entire focus toward contending for the Super Bowl.

The Packers may hold comfort with Jordan Love taking over after this year, but the team went the extra mile to appease Rodgers to get him back. It’s also clear that the front office wants to make the most out of the current roster that is on the doorstep of contending for a championship.

With Rodgers coming off arguably his best season, it only makes sense to run it back another year to see what the team can accomplish. If the Packers fall short of the Super Bowl again, it may see the 37-year-old take control of his career to do what he believes is best.

All those factors put the ultimate spotlight on Green Bay in what will be a highly scrutinized 2021 campaign.
