Aaron Rodgers Just Sent a Stern Warning to the Packers

The storyline around star quarterback Aaron Rodgers ahead of the 2020 season centers on his future with the Green Bay Packers. However, Rodgers has continued to keep his focus solely on the task before him. That notion was made more apparent after he delivered a stern warning to his team ahead of the upcoming campaign.

The attention around the Packers has centered on Aaron Rodgers’ future with the franchise.

Rodgers continues to brush aside any subtle indications that his time with the team is nearing a close sooner than expected. The 36-year-old has kept his focus on what he can do to guide Green Bay to sustained success in the 2020 season.

The presence of rookie quarterback Jordan Love has been a constant reminder of what may lie ahead, but Rodgers continues to embrace mentoring the former Utah State product. The situation hasn’t provided the two-time league MVP with more motivation, but instead, emphasized the reality that his future in Green Bay is out of his control.

With that in mind, Rodgers has a strong message for his teammates and the organization ahead of the 2020 season.

It hasn’t been a normal offseason for the NFL due to the concerns regarding the coronavirus pandemic. That has shifted how the league has gone about preparing for the 2020 season.

The NFL has canceled the entire preseason while training camp didn’t start until late July. Teams didn’t get the green light to practice in pads until the last couple of weeks. The unique situation has pushed Aaron Rodgers to voice that the Packers must move through the abbreviated training camp with a strong sense of urgency, according to Mike Spofford of Packers.com.

“Where it used to be a nine-week offseason, a training camp, four preseason games … we’ve got a lot to do in a short amount of time,” Rodgers said in a video conference call with media late Monday.

“The urgency is definitely up with us.”

NFL teams don’t have the luxury of time to get themselves prepped adequately ahead of the upcoming campaign. Their offseason has been heavily impacted by the virus, while there are no preseason games for players to get their feet wet before the regular season.

That places increased importance on getting the most out of their shortened training camp. It means that if the Packers want to find success in the 2020 season, it will need them to start on the ground running from the get-go. Rodgers is certainly aware of that, and his message will ring clear throughout the organization.

Packers’ 2020 season expectation

The Packers are coming off an impressive 2019 campaign that saw them fall a win short of earning a Super Bowl berth.

Green Bay demonstrated a healthy balance on both sides of the ball in their first year under head coach Matt LaFleur. The growing sense is that the team will fall back a tad from their 13-win campaign. The Packers have the tough task in 2020 with facing the entire NFC South division that features matchups against the New Orleans Saints and the revamped Tampa Bay Buccaneers led by Tom Brady.

Green Bay also has games against the San Francisco 49ers, Houston Texans, and Philadelphia Eagles. That places greater importance on Aaron Rodgers to continue being a game-changing factor. Ultimately, the team will go as far as Rodgers can take them.

The Packers have well-placed aspirations for the playoffs and a possible deep postseason run, but it will be a campaign full of daunting challenges.
