Allen Iverson had an NBA career to remember
Iverson came into the NBA as the No. 1 pick in the 1996 NBA draft to the Philadelphia 76ers. He would become a star in Philadelphia and was loved by many fans. During his first year in the league, he averaged 23.5 points, 7.5 assists, and 4.1 rebounds per game. He was named the Rookie of the Year after an impressive performance. Iverson’s game blossomed over the next few years, and he quickly became a star in the NBA. During his time in Philadelphia, he led the league in scoring four times.
In 2001, Iverson won the NBA MVP award after averaging 31.1 points, 4.6 assists, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.5 steals per game. That season, he helped lead the 76ers to the NBA Finals as they took on the Los Angeles Lakers. Though the Lakers won the series 4-1, Iverson put on a performance to remember. He led all scorers averaging 35.6 points during those five games. At six feet, Iverson did not let his size stop him from being a dominant player on the court.
Iverson spent almost 11 seasons in Philadelphia, helping the 76ers become one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference. He had a will to win, and he went out and competed at a high level every time he stepped on that court. It was a bittersweet feeling for Iverson when he left the team that believed in him when he came out of Georgetown. Just 15 games into the 2006-07 season, the 76ers traded Iverson to the Denver Nuggets.
After his time in Denver, Iverson was traded to the Detroit Pistons and finished the 2008-09 season with them. In his final NBA career, he played three games with the Memphis Grizzlies and finished the 2009-10 season with the 76ers. The 11-time All-Star finished his career averaging 26.7 points, 6.2 assists, and 3.7 rebounds. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2016.

On Wednesday, Iverson made a post on Instagram that raised a lot of questions. The post was a picture of Iverson and Louis Farrakhan together. The caption read, “I didn’t choose to be black, I just got lucky!!!” There have been athletes who have caught a lot of flak for making posts regarding Farrakhan or anti-Semitic related information. After Iverson posted that photo on Instagram, he cleared up the reasoning behind it.
Iverson made another post a few days after the photo with Farrakhan and said that he did not meant to offend anyone. In the recent post, Iverson said, “I respect Louis Farrakhan’s strong voice on behalf of Black people and his impact on the Black community. I also acknowledge that he is viewed as a controversial figure and I am aware that he has made remarks and comments that are different from my own views and beliefs.” Iverson explained a lot more in that post, and he wanted to make sure that everyone understands where he’s coming from.
