The Chicago Bears angered the entire fan base by signing veteran quarterback Andy Dalton to a one-year deal worth $10 million in free agency. Bears general manager Ryan Pace made the move after attempting to trade for Seattle Seahawks superstar Russell Wilson.
There isn’t one person in Chicago besides Ryan Pace and head coach Matt Nagy who is happy about the Andy Dalton signing. Bears fans are so upset about the move that they are already bashing the gunslinger through local businesses despite Dalton not having played a game yet.
Andy Dalton will be the starter in Chicago
During his introductory press conference with Bears reporters, Andy Dalton said Ryan Pace assured him that he would be the starting quarterback in 2021. Chicago fans don’t like it, but then again, they haven’t enjoyed anything Pace has done at the QB spot.
“They told me I was the starter,” Dalton said, via ESPN. “That was one of the reasons why I wanted to come here. So every conversation I’ve had has been that, so that’s the assurance that I’ve gotten.”
Dalton played the first nine years of his career with the Cincinnati Bengals before playing for the Dallas Cowboys in 2020. A three-time Pro Bowler, Dalton has thrown for 33,764 yards, 218 touchdowns, and 126 interceptions in the NFL.
Andy Dalton’s arrival in Chicago has been met with a lot of criticism since Bears fans were hoping for Russell Wilson or Deshaun Watson. Since Chicago is one of the toughest towns to play in, Dalton is aware of what he’s getting himself into.
However, even the Red Rifle couldn’t have expected what a Chicago restaurant did.
Chicago restaurant destroys Andy Dalton
A restaurant destroyed Andy Dalton by putting up a rather unkind sign. The sign says, “Try our ginger tonic its way better than our new ginger QB.”
Dalton, of course, has red hair. For anyone unsure if Bears fans are pissed off about the Dalton signing, this sign says it all.
This is really unfair to Dalton. It’s not his fault that Ryan Pace signed him to a $10 million deal. The 33-year-old probably won’t be good in 2021 since he’s past his prime, and Bears fans have every reason to rip Pace.
However, Andy Dalton doesn’t deserve this type of treatment. He’s a great guy on and off the field and hasn’t even played a game in Chicago yet. This restaurant should have made a sign bashing Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy instead since they have been with the Bears for a few years and haven’t helped the franchise grow.
The Bears will likely miss the playoffs in 2021
The Bears only made the playoffs in 2020 because the NFL allowed more teams in. Chicago went 8-8 and lost to the New Orleans Saints in the Wild Card Round.
Barring a miracle, the Bears will likely miss the playoffs in 2021. Kyle Fuller is gone, and he’s one of the top cornerbacks in the NFL. While Andy Dalton will have a chip on his shoulder, the odds of him playing at a high-level behind Chicago’s offensive line are low.
