After winning the NBA title, Davis became the first player to accomplish something impressive.
Anthony Davis winning at the college level
Before entering the NBA, Davis was a top player in college basketball. He attended the University of Kentucky, where he had a lot of success. Davis spent one season at Kentucky and went on to accomplish a lot during his freshman year. He finished the season averaging 14.2 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 4.7 blocks. The talented freshman was named the SEC Rookie of the Year, SEC Defensive Player of the Year, and SEC Player of the Year.
Kentucky had a lot of success as a team as well. They went on to defeat Vanderbilt in the SEC Championship game. Going into the NCAA Tournament, Kentucky was one of the favorites to win it all. Davis averaged 15.2 points, 11.2 rebounds, and 4.6 blocks per game during Kentucky’s six NCAA Tournament games. Kentucky went on to win the national championship during Davis’ freshman year, and he was named the NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player.
Davis also was a consensus first-team All-American and was named the National Player of the Year. He was named the USBWA National Freshman of the Year and the NABC Defensive Player of the Year. Davis had a year to remember, and he finished his college basketball career on top. His successful season led him to be the No. 1 pick in the 2012 NBA draft.
Anthony Davis’ impressive NBA career
When Davis entered the league, he quickly made an impact. In his first season with the New Orleans Hornets, he averaged 13.5 points and 8.2 rebounds. He was named to the All-Rookie First Team. Over the next few years in New Orleans, he blossomed into one of the league’s top players. With all the success he had in New Orleans, Davis never was in talks of winning a title because of the team he played for.
Davis has put up Hall of Fame type numbers throughout his career, and all he was missing was an NBA championship. When he joined the Lakers, he knew that he would compete for a championship. The Lakers were among the top teams in the league and had the top two players in the NBA in LeBron James and Davis. Davis was filled with joy when he finally won his first NBA title, and he accomplished something many players try to do.
Anthony Davis accomplishing something no other player has done
Davis knows how to win. It’s in his DNA. It started with him winning the national championship in college, and then after winning the NCAA title, he was part of the 2012 USA team that won the gold medal. So before his NBA career started, he was already an NCAA champion and an Olympic gold medalist.
In 2014, Davis was a USA team member who competed in the World Cup and won the gold medal. All Davis needed was that NBA title, and that came for him six years later.
