Anthony Davis Strongly Believes His Teammate LeBron James Should Win the MVP Award

At the age of 35. LeBron James is playing like his younger self. Age has not caught up to the three-time NBA champion and he still is one of the best players in the league. There’s been a lot of discussion on who should win the MVP award this season.

Anthony Davis believes his teammate deserves the award. James has led the Lakers to a 49-14 record which is the best record in the Western Conference.

LeBron James was on a mission before the 2019-20 season was suspended

Going into the 2019-20 NBA season, James was ready to get back on the court. James dealt with injuries the previous season that had him sidelined for most of the season. He was ready to lead his team to success heading into the new season. At the start of the 2019-20 season, the Los Angeles Lakers got off to a 17-2 start, matching the best start in franchise history. The Lakers looked like a completely different team from the previous season with a healthy James and the addition of Anthony Davis.

Through 60 games, James averaged 25.7 points, 10.6 assists, and 7.9 rebounds per game. James is second on the team in scoring and rebounds and leads the team in assists. The superstar has improved his game in many areas. If you watch James during a game, you will see how well he can control the game and play multiple positions. He can play point guard or center. His versatility is something that has stood out amongst other players this season. Not to mention the impact he’s had on his team. If the Lakers can finish the regular season on a good note, they’ll be the top seed in the Western Conference.

The Lakers can thank James for contributing a lot to the team. Now the Lakers do have a good supporting cast around James. With veterans like Dwight Howard, Danny Green, and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, to name a few, the Lakers have a lot of depth. As long as James remains healthy, the Lakers will be a team that can compete for an NBA title and they have a strong chance at winning it this year.

Anthony Davis believes LeBron James deserves the MVP award

In his mind, Davis believes that his teammate deserves the MVP award. This is the first season that the two have played together and Davis has noticed how much James has evolved as a player. “James’ remarkable consistency and the way he has silenced his detractors are the main arguments why he should be the NBA’s MVP,” Davis said during a media session with reporters.

Davis went on to talk about how James is having one of his best seasons of his career. No one has a better view of watching James play than Davis who plays with him each night. “Then just to be in the race at his age, this part of his career, for me to see it every night, and on a consistent basis, not just three or four games here, he does it every night, he’s been doing it all his career, it’s a good argument for him to be MVP,” Davis told reporters.

If LeBron James wins the MVP award, he’ll join Karl Malone as the oldest MVP winners

The oldest player that won the NBA MVP award is Karl Malone and he was 35. James is the same age and if he wins, he and Malone will be the two oldest MVP winners. When Malone won the MVP award in 1999, he averaged 23.8 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 4.1 assists. There was an NBA lockout that season, so Malone only played in 49 games.

The 2019-20 MVP award will be decided on performances prior to the league’s suspension in March due to the coronavirus pandemic. Though James has put together an impressive season, reigning MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo did the same. Before the season was put on halt, he averaged 29.6 points, 13.7 rebounds, and 5.8 assists per game. It will be interesting to see who this year’s MVP winner will be.
