Former star quarterback Brett Favre put forth an incredible NFL career that made him a first-ballot Hall of Famer. Favre has garnered tremendously strong respect from his peers thanks to what he accomplished on the football field over two decades in the league. However, the old gunslinger just took a significant hit to his reputation and status after one decision involving President Donald Trump.
Brett Favre’s reputation
Brett Favre has earned the reputation as being one of the greatest players in NFL history from what he accomplished in his two decades in the league.
Favre spent the majority of his career with the Green Bay Packers, where he achieved the bulk of his success. He also spent time with the Atlanta Falcons and New York Jets, and he finished his career with the Minnesota Vikings. Favre is the first player in league history to record 500 touchdown passes, 70,000 passing yards, 6,000 completed passes, and 10,000 pass attempts.
He also piled on three regular-season MVP awards, 11 Pro Bowl selections, three First-Team All-Pro nods, and three Second-Team All-Pro selections. He also earned eight division championships, made five NFC Championship Games, and two Super Bowl appearances that included winning Super Bowl 31 with the Packers over the New England Patriots.
Favre may have faced criticism for how he handled his few final seasons with Green Bay, but it hadn’t damaged his reputation as one of the all-time greats. However, he may have just made a choice that will alter how many perceive him off the field away from football.
Brett Favre decides to golf with Donald Trump
Brett Favre has long been held as one of the greatest quarterbacks to play the game from his illustrious career.
Much of that comes with tremendous respect for what he has accomplished on the football field. However, that may have taken a significant hit with what he did by playing golf with President Donald Trump. That has led to strong backlash directed at him for his actions as many over social media have aired out their disappointment.
Before that, it wasn’t known where Favre stood politically, but his decision to golf with Trump leads one to believe that he supports him. The choice to go that route also paints a picture that he’s supportive of Trump’s viewpoints and how he approaches things in the country. Keep in mind, the timing of the golfing draws serious questions as there are things such as the death total from the coronavirus in the United States nearing 150,000.
Meanwhile, Hurricane Hanna has made landfall in Texas, and Hurricane Douglas is close to doing damage to Hawaii. Favre’s decision to associate himself with Trump brings the windstorm of the issues that he is dealing with as president.
Brett Favre faces strong fallout
It didn’t take long for Favre to catch plenty of hatred and disdain on social media for his decision to golf with Donald Trump.
There are reasons for people to pile on that choice as some believe Trump is the representation of disappointing flaws, both morally and ethically, during his presidency. Favre may not have stated anything, but it’s his association with the president that upset some fans, similar to when New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees took a family photo with Trump at the College Football National Title Game in January.
Regardless of what Favre does moving forward, he will forever be associated with the president. It may have only been a picture, but a picture in many ways can say a thousand words.
