Brian Hoyer is in his 12th NFL season. He’s played for seven teams in his career, including New England, where he is in his third stint. Tonight, Hoyer starts for the Patriots in place of Cam Newton, who is out following his positive COVID-19 diagnosis. Despite regularly playing the role of backup, Hoyer has earned a nice living. What is Brian Hoyer’s net worth?

Brian Hoyer stars at Michigan State

At Michigan State, Brian Hoyer saw limited playing time his first two seasons with the Spartans. That changed his junior season in 2007 when he was named the starter.

Hoyer started all 13 games that year at Michigan State where he completed 223-of-376 passes for 2,725 yards, including 20 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He received honorable mention All-Big Ten honors.

During his senior season, despite being named to the preseason list for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, Hoyer’s level of success waned as he finished the season completing 180-of-353 for 2,404 yards. He had nine touchdowns and nine interceptions.

Hoyer has survived as an NFL journeyman quarterback

While Brian Hoyer was invited to the NFL scouting combine, he went undrafted in the 2009 NFL Draft. He signed a free-agent contract with the New England Patriots, where he would serve as a backup behind Tom Brady for three seasons, appearing in 13 games during that time.

After a season in Arizona, where he made his first NFL start, Hoyer joined the Cleveland Browns in 2013. He played two seasons for the Browns, including the most productive season of his NFL career in 2014 when he made 13 starts. He finished that season with a 7-6 record, which included throwing 12 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.

Since 2015, Hoyer has been one of the most nomadic quarterbacks in the NFL, playing for seven teams during that time frame, including twice with the Patriots. Over the course of his 11 seasons, he’s compiled a 16-22 record.

What is Brian Hoyer’s net worth?

When Brian Hoyer first signed with the New England Patriots in 2009, he signed a contract worth $322,500. Since that first contract, his deals have steadily increased in size, including his biggest deal with the San Francisco 49ers in 2017 worth $7.25 million according to Spotrac.

This offseason, Hoyer agreed to return to the team where it all started more than a decade ago when he signed a one-year contract with the Patriots worth a reported $1.05 million.

While Hoyer has seen limited action during his 12 seasons, all of those paychecks have added up. For his career, he has made more than $29 million in career earnings and has an impressive net worth of $19 million.

Not bad for a journeyman backup quarterback.
