Brian Urlacher’s Former Teammate Threw Him Under the Bus for Jacob Blake Comments

Over the last few days, Hall of Famer Brian Urlacher has been under fire for his controversial comments about the Jacob Blake shooting. Urlacher has received strong criticism for his remarks that have resulted in the Chicago Bears distancing themselves from his point of view. That ventured up a notch after one of his former teammates went to social media to blast him.

Brian Urlacher makes controversial comments

In the wake of the near-fatal shooting involving Jacob Blake, there has been plenty of reactions around the sports world.

Much of that has seen a strong call for social change to put a stop those incidents happening. However, Hall of Famer Brian Urlacher went the opposite direction as he bashed the NBA players for nearly canceling their playoffs due to the matter.

“Brett Favre played the MNF game the day his dad died [sic], threw 4 TDs in the first half and was a legend for playing in the face of adversity. NBA players boycott the playoffs because a dude reaching for a knife, wanted on [a] felony sexual assault warrant, was shot by police.”

There has been strong negative feedback toward Urlacher’s comments, with many voicing that he lacks empathy and understanding of the situation. It has also seen one of his former Bears teammates slam him for his remarks.

Matt Forte blasts Brian Urlacher for his controversial comments

Brian Urlacher’s comments haven’t quite garnered the response he may have hoped to receive over social media.

Former Bears star running Matt Forte didn’t hold back his emotions by blasting his former teammate on Twitter, stating that Urlacher is “blinded” by his wealth and privilege.

“The comment [Urlacher] posted is void of empathy, compassion, wisdom and coherence. But full of pride and ignorance! I pray for those who have been blinded by their wealth, privilege and earthly fame that breeds arrogance in their hearts.”

Forte continued: “And those who refuse to acknowledge racism and injustice but instead choose to place their energy into justifying it by quickly judging the victim’s life as if they themselves are more valuable because their sins are different or weren’t caught by man. But God sees all.”

Forte’s comments sum up much of the sentiment directed toward Urlacher. The Hall of Famer has earned respect for what he accomplished throughout his illustrious football career, but his stance has garnered strong criticism.

It has also led the organization where he spent his entire NFL career to decide to distance themselves from him.

Bears have also distanced themselves from the situation

Beyond Matt Forte issuing a strong statement criticizing Brian Urlacher, the Bears have gone their own route.

Following Urlacher posting his comments about the Jacob Blake situation, the team sent out a press release that stated that the Hall of Famer’s words does not reflect the franchise’s beliefs and values. The team also voiced the need to create social change by echoing the call for action in their communities to stop racial issues and police brutality.

The Bears have fallen in line with what many sports franchises have voiced over the last several days. The organization isn’t disowning Urlacher by any means, but rather separating themselves from him entirely on this social issue.

Like the rest of the NFL, there will be more actions ahead from the Bears to help generate change toward stopping social injustice.
