Bronny James vs. Emoni Bates is the Prep Hoops Showdown the World Can’t Wait to Watch

All eyes will be on high school basketball pretty soon when Bronny James and Emoni Bates play against each other in a basketball showcase. These are two top players in their respective classes, and they are two names that many are familiar with.

This won’t be the first time the two have played against each other. They faced off against each other in the summer of 2019 during an AAU game. The second meeting between the two will be just as exciting.

Taking a look at Emoni Bates, the No. 1 player in the country

Ever since Bates entered high school, he has been a star. He has already accomplished a lot during his high school career. Bates spent his freshman and sophomore year playing at Ypsilanti Lincoln High School in Michigan. Before Bates arrived there, they were not considered a basketball powerhouse in the state. But that quickly changed. 

As a freshman, he led his school to a state championship, and he was named the Michigan Gatorade Player of the Year. He also was named MaxPreps National Freshman of the Year. During his sophomore year, he was determined to lead his team to another state championship, but the coronavirus pandemic prevented that from happening. Bates still had success as he became the first sophomore to win the Gatorade National Player of the Year boys’ award.

At 6-foot-9, Bates can do it all. His length allows him to be able to shoot over defenders, and he can get to the rim without any problem. He has the tools to play in the NBA already, and when he puts on some more pounds, he will be a force on the court. After his sophomore, Bates left Ypsilanti Lincoln to play for Ypsi Prep Academy, a prep school started by his father. According to ESPN, he is the No. 1 player in the class of 2022, and Bates will play his college ball at Michigan State if he decides to attend college. 

Bronny James becoming a household name in high school basketball

Bronny has been in the spotlight his entire life being the son of LeBron James. Even before he entered high school, the cameras were following him. If you go on YouTube, you will see multiple highlights of Bronny before he started playing high school basketball. As a freshman, Bronny played for Sierra Canyon, a national powerhouse in high school basketball. 

Sierra Canyon had multiple players committed to Division I programs, and as a freshman, Bronny played a significant role in coming off the bench. Now in his sophomore year, Bronny will look to take on a bigger role. According to ESPN, he is ranked No. 24 in the class of 2023. As his high school career continues, Bronny will receive offers from all the big-time schools.

Emoni Bates and Bronny James, the second meeting

According to an article from, The Battle Basketball Showcase will take place on November 20 and 21 at the Allen Event Center in Dallas, Texas. LA Laker and three-time NBA champion Danny Green is sponsoring the event, which will feature some of the country’s top high school players. The matchup that everyone will be excited to watch will be Ypsi Prep Academy vs. Sierra Canyon. The game will be broadcast live on FS1 at 9:30 E.T. on Nov. 21. 

This will be the second time James and Bates have played against each other. The two played in the summer of 2019 during an AAU game in Indiana. James was playing for Strive For Greatness, and Bates was playing for Bates Fundamental. Strive For Greatness defeated Bates Fundamentals 93-73. 

Bates had an impressive performance, scoring 43 points and finishing with 11 rebounds, while James had 12 points. This upcoming basketball game between Ypsi Prep Academy and Sierra Canyon may be one of the most exciting high school games all year.
