Canelo Álvarez’s $19,000 Shopping Spree Explains His Lavish Lifestyle

Boxing can make the best fighters ridiculously rich. And Canelo Alvarez is one of the few who has become a boxing superstar. Like many wealthy athletes, he celebrates a lavish lifestyle. Few things evidence this more than his nearly $20,000 shopping spree. How did Canelo make that money and what did he exactly buy with that money all in one sitting?

Canelo Alvarez’s boxing career

Just like Manny Pacquiao, Alvarez’s boxing career started early. In fact, He started boxing professionally at the of 15, and he didn’t lose a single fight until he was 23. In those eight years, Alvarez fought 43 times and won almost every single fight. The only fight he didn’t win was his fifth, which ended in a draw.

When he was 23, Alvarez fought Floyd Mayweather, who easily dominated the Guadalajara, Mexico native. That said, Alvarez earned $12 million for fighting Mayweather, according to DAZN. Although he viewed the loss as a setback, it didn’t stop him.

Since losing to Mayweather in 2013, Alvarez has fought 12 times and he hasn’t lost a single one. Along the way, he beat great boxers like Gennady Golovkin, Sergey Kovalev, and Amir Khan. Alvarez has also managed to win titles in four different weight classes. This hot streak makes him one of the most popular boxers in the world. As a result, he gets paid a lot.

Due to his popularity, Alvarez has a lot of endorsement deals. Companies like Under Armour, Everlast, and Tecate, a popular Mexican beer owned by Heineken, all pay for his endorsement. While it’s not clear how much money these sponsorships pay, it’s significant nonetheless.

At the end of the day, DAZN says Alvarez has a net worth of about $94 million. He’s also the fourth highest-paid active athlete in the world. Only soccer stars like Cristiano Ronaldo are paid better than him, and no other active boxer makes as much money.

He’s not just a fan of exotic cars. Alvarez is also a bit of a sneakerhead. When he went sneaker shopping with Complex, he spent over $19,000 on shoes and a hoodie. During the interview, he discussed his love of one of Kobe Bryant’s shoes with Nike, the Kobe 9 Elite. Alvarez also said that he prefers to run in a pair of Sauconys.
