Charles Barkley Went Out of His Way to Give a Homeless Man $100 Because of the Funny and Honest Sign He Was Holding

NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley has made a lot of money in his life. The basketball legend made over $40 million in NBA contracts and has earned plenty more through endorsements and investments.

Barkley was born and raised in Leeds, Alabama. His family didn’t have a bunch of money while he grew up, and Barkley’s hometown was filled with hundreds of homeless people.

Once he became a millionaire, Charles Barkley couldn’t help but give homeless people money since he knows the struggle they go through. Usually, Chuck would give homeless individuals a few dollars so they can grab some food. However, Barkley once gave a person $100 because of the sign they were holding.

The Philadelphia 76ers drafted Charles Barkley with the fifth overall pick in the 1984 draft out of Auburn. Sir Charles played eight years in Philadelphia and averaged 23.3 points and 11.6 rebounds.

In the summer of 1992, Barkley was traded to the Phoenix Suns. The Round Mound of Rebound won the MVP Award during the 1992-93 NBA season and guided the Suns to the NBA Finals, where Phoenix lost to Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls in six games.

Barkley averaged 23.4 points and 11.5 rebounds during his four-year run with the Suns. His final four seasons in the NBA came with the Houston Rockets. Barkley put up 16.5 points and 12.2 rebounds in Clutch City.

The 1999-00 season was Barkley’s last campaign in the NBA. He finished his stellar career with averages of 22.1 points, 11.7 rebounds, and 3.9 assists. Barkley made 11 All-Star teams and was the 1990-91 All-Star Game MVP.

In 2006, Barkley was inducted into the Hall of Fame. He’s worked for TNT as an NBA analyst for over a decade and has racked up millions of dollars in his bank account.

Since he’s got generational money, Charles Barkley tends to give homeless people money when he sees them. On one occasion, The Chuckster made a homeless man’s day by giving him $100.

When he and Michael Jordan were on The Oprah Winfrey Show in 2005, Charles Barkley said he gave a homeless man $100 for beer. Both Jordan and Winfrey laughed after hearing Barkley’s entertaining story.

“I stopped one day and gave this guy like $100. He had a sign that said, ‘No lying here, folks. Want money for alcohol.’ And I thought the sign was so funny, I pulled over and gave him $100,” Barkley said. “That was a great sign. He didn’t lie. I just liked the sign.”

Barkley also talked about how Jordan was cheap. According to The Chuck Wagon, Jordan slapped his hand and prevented him from giving money to a homeless person once because MJ said if that person can stand outside all day long and ask for money, they can work at McDonald’s.

One of the reasons people love Charles Barkley is he’s always going to speak his mind no matter the subject. He’s one of the most unfiltered humans on the face of the Earth.

Chuck gets teased all the time for not winning a title

When they were friends, Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley teased each other all the time. Jordan, though, would always get the last laugh by pointing out how Barkley has zero rings.

On NBA on TNT, Shaquille O’Neal and Kenny Smith tease Barkley for having zero championships as well. Chuck always takes the jokes in good stride, though.

While it’s unfortunate that Charles Barkley never won an NBA championship, he’s still a winner in life since he made millions of dollars and established himself as a basketball icon.
