Colin Kaepernick and Alex Smith crossed paths while on the San Francisco 49ers. Both quarterbacks ultimately had a lot of success with the team. Kaepernick has not played in the NFL since the 2016 season, though, as many people believe it has to do with his protests during the national anthem. Smith, on the other hand, has not played since the 2018 season due to injury. So, with both of them having success but not playing recently, which quarterback has a higher net worth?
Alex Smith had success with the 49ers and Chiefs
After playing college football at Utah, Alex Smith went to the San Francisco 49ers with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2005 NFL draft.
He struggled at the start of his career, though. In his rookie season, Smith played in nine games and started in seven. He ultimately only threw one touchdown and 11 interceptions.
Smith then had highs and lows over the next few years. He only played in seven games in 2007, he missed the entire 2008 season, and he only played in 11 games in both 2009 and 2010.
However, in 2011, Smith had an excellent season. He threw for 3,144 yards, 17 touchdowns, and five interceptions. The 49ers went 13-3 that season too, and Smith helped lead them to the NFC Championship Game, where they lost by only three points to the New York Giants.
In 2012, though, Smith started in nine games, but Kaepernick ultimately took over his starting position and led the 49ers to the Super Bowl.
Then from 2013 through 2017, Smith had a lot of success with the Kansas City Chiefs. He helped lead the Chiefs to the playoffs in four of those five seasons, and the team had a winning record each season.
Smith also earned three Pro Bowl selections while with the Chiefs. This includes the 2017 season, where he threw for career-highs in yards with 4,042 and touchdowns with 26. He also only had five interceptions.
In 2018, Smith played for the Washington Redskins but suffered a severe leg injury. He has not played since Nov. 18, 2018.
Colin Kaepernick was excellent for the 49ers
Kaepernick went to the San Francisco 49ers in the second round of the 2011 NFL draft, and he only threw five total passes in his rookie year in 2011. He, however, became a star in 2012.
Kaepernick started in seven games and played in 13 total in the 2012 regular season. He threw for 1,814 yards, 10 touchdowns, and three interceptions that season while also running for 415 yards and five touchdowns.
He then ultimately led the 49ers to the Super Bowl that season and played really well in the big game. The 49ers lost to the Baltimore Ravens in the Super Bowl, but Kaepernick threw for 302 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for 62 yards and a touchdown.
In 2013, Kaepernick threw for 3,197 yards, 21 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. He helped get the 49ers back to the NFC Championship game too.
However, the 49ers missed the playoffs the next three seasons, even though Kaepernick threw for a career-high 3,369 yards in 2014, and ran for a career-high 639 yards.
He has not played since the 2016 season as that was when he began kneeling during the national anthem to protest police brutality and racism in America. Kaepernick, however, threw for 2,241 yards, 16 touchdowns, and only four interceptions in 11 starts and 12 games in 2016.
Colin Kaepernick and Alex Smith both have a massive net worth
Smith has played in the NFL longer than Kaepernick, which has helped him make more money in the league. Smith has earned an estimated $173.72 million in his career, according to Spotrac. Kaepernick, on the other hand, has made $43.47 million in the NFL, also according to Spotrac.
This has helped Smith rack up the more substantial net worth of the two quarterbacks. Smith is worth an estimated $55 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. Kaepernick is worth an estimated $20 million, also according to Celebrity Net Worth.
Both Kaepernick and Smith have a massive net worth. If they can both get back on the field in the NFL, though, maybe their values can get even larger.
