Conor McGregor Finally Left Speechless By Another UFC Fighter

Throughout the last several years, Conor McGregor has been one of the most prominent UFC fighters. That has seen him find much success while continuing to back up his infamous trash-talking with his performance in the octagon. McGregor‘s fighting status has continued to remain uncertain after yet another retirement, but he has another potential fight on the table. It may be the only time that he has stayed quiet about a possible opponent.

Beyond Conor McGregor’s success in the octagon, he has become a master trash-talker that has become part of his persona.

It’s what has lifted him to even greater heights of popularity over the last several years. That’s what has made a big-money drawer for the UFC regardless of the opponent he faces. It certainly helps that he has had tremendous success in the last seven years as he holds a 10-2 record as he won both the lightweight and featherweight titles.

There are question marks around his fighting future, which has seen him surprisingly quiet for the first time in his career.

Despite his recent retirement from the octagon, Conor McGregor’s name has continued to remain prominently mentioned in the business.

That has continued to see him brought up as a possible opponent for welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, who is coming off a convincing win against Jorge Masvidal at UFC 251. With that in mind, Usman has opened up to TMZ Sports that he offered McGregor a title fight, but the 32-year-old elected to turn it down. (H/T Yahoo Sports)

“If Conor wants a piece at welterweight, he knows who the king of the division is. I’m not going anywhere. I’m right here. “I’ve offered him a shot. I said, ‘Hey, do you want it? It’s yours, you got it’. And he was silent. Days later, Anderson Silva says, ‘Hey, let’s do it’. And he responded and said, ‘Yeah’. It’s clear right there to know if Conor is willing to step up and take a fight like this, but I think he’s a wise guy so he should just stay retired.

“If Conor wants to put my name in his mouth, then come get some. Anybody wants to say something about me then just come get some. That’s it. I’m the king. I’m not in a position where I wanna call people out, I’m not doing that.”

Usman hasn’t backed down from a challenge as he has also discussed his desire to face George St. Pierre. It’s clear that he would more than entertain a matchup against McGregor if he wants the match. The former featherweight and lightweight champion voiced after his convincing win over Donald Cerrone in January that he would be open to facing Usman or Masvidal.

It appears to be a matter of McGregor wants that fight as it’s on the table. That’s all on him to take up the offer that Usman has put on a silver platter.

Will he fight again?

The question becomes whether Conor McGregor will come out of retirement another time.

Many have questioned the validity of McGregor’s decision to step away as his explanation sounded like he didn’t like waiting around to fight. If the UFC can have a bout lined up with the right financial figure on the table, it’s hard to envision that he wouldn’t entertain another match.

McGregor has reached the point where he can dictate his workload and which opponents he wants to fight. There are plenty of fighters who would welcome the challenge of taking on arguably the most notable face in the company in the last decade.
