This year’s NFL offseason has been chaotic, and that’s putting it relatively lightly. Multiple superstar-caliber players have switched teams, with blockbuster trades and free-agent signings happening at a near-daily rate. The Miami Dolphins acquiring All-Pro WR Tyreek Hill was the latest move to send waves throughout the NFL, and it made a particularly interesting impact on Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs.
After seeing Hill land in Miami, Diggs took to Twitter to voice his opinion about the Cowboys acquiring their own superstar wide receiver this offseason.
Trevon Diggs wants the Cowboys to acquire his brother, Stefon Diggs
On March 26, Diggs fired off back-to-back tweets imploring the Cowboys to kick the tires on acquiring his brother, Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs.
The two brothers made national headlines this past Pro Bowl when they lined up against each other at cornerback and wide receiver. It was a feel-good story for the two.
However, that brief shared moment on the Pro Bowl field didn’t appear to be enough for Trevon Diggs. He wants his brother to join him on the Cowboys. The Bills trading away their No. 1 wide receiver would have been a ridiculous ask just a couple of months ago. However, with how wild this year’s NFL offseason has been, anything looks possible these days.
Bills QB Josh Allen quickly responded to Trevon Diggs’ tweets
Trevon Diggs was likely half-joking. However, Bills quarterback Josh Allen isn’t taking any chances. He responded to a SportsCenter post of Diggs’ tweet with a brief “no.” He doesn’t want his top target to move from Buffalo to Dallas anytime soon.
For what it’s worth, the logic behind Stefon Diggs being traded away from Buffalo anytime soon makes minimal sense. The Bills front office traded multiple valuable draft picks for Diggs in 2020 with the whole goal of providing Allen a trustworthy and established WR1.
The Bills have yet to reach the AFC Championship with Allen and Diggs. However, it’s undoubtedly been a strong pairing up to this point. The BIlls have rostered one of the best offenses in the NFL in back-to-back years. They’re on the brink of breaking through and coming out of the AFC.
Could the Cowboys target Stefon Diggs in free agency?
As things currently stand, Stefon Diggs will stay with the Bills while the Cowboys move forward with CeeDee Lamb as their WR1. However, it’s worth wondering if Trevon Diggs could play a role in recruiting his brother to Dallas in 2024, when he’s set to hit free agency for the first time in his NFL career.
Common sense suggests the Bills and Stefon work out a long-term contract extension to keep him in Buffalo for the foreseeable future. However, with wide receiver contracts getting bigger and bigger these days, Stefon could be interested in testing the open market and fighting for the most money possible.
This is where Trevon and the Cowboys could potentially enter the picture. Dallas offering Stefon the ability to play with his younger brother is quite the leveraging tool.
