Following his father’s footsteps, Dale Earnhardt Jr. picked up a career as a professional stock car driver.
Earnhardt Jr. turned that into competing for nearly two decades in NASCAR, which he earned his fair share of success. Although he didn’t win a Cup Series championship, he strung together a resume that earned him much recognition and a 2021 NASCAR Hall of Fame induction.
Earnhardt Jr. may have initially entered the sport in his father’s shadow, but he carved out a lane of his own in the sports’ history. His NASCAR career also landed him some unforgettable opportunities outside of his profession.
One of those scenarios presented the unique chance to meet Beyoncé, which lead him to have a priceless reaction.

During his professional driving career with NASCAR, Dale Earnhardt Jr. became a household name.
Earnhardt Jr.’s tremendous popularity earned him the opportunity to be featured in Jay-Z’s “Show Me What You Got” music video in 2006. During an interview on Ryan Blaney’s Glass Case of Emotion podcast, the two-time Daytona 500 winner stated that he locked up when he met Beyonce. (H/T Rare Country)
“It was 8 o’clock in the morning. I’m standing on the side of the street,” Dale Jr. recalled. “I walk up. Jay Z’s leaning up against the wall, and he’s like, ‘Hey man, how’s it going?’ I’m like, ‘All right, just got here, everything’s cool.’
“Soon as we start our conversation, Beyoncé walks up,” he continued. “She’s been shopping — she’s got shopping bags in her hand — and so I just locked up right then. That was just a little bit too much power at one time. I was OK with Jay Z, but then she walked up, and it was just, like, overload. It was insane.”
Earnhardt Jr.’s opportunity to meet Beyoncé came after he flew out to Monaco to star in the music video. His experience also included Danica Patrick playing a prominent role in the video as the rival driver.
It’s a memory that is forever engrained in Earnhardt Jr.’s mind. During that same interview, he voiced that Jay-Z and Beyoncé were “super down to earth’ and easy to talk to, which only further made it a pleasant experience.

Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s experience with Jay-Z isn’t the first time he has been featured in a music video.
Over the years, Earnhardt Jr. has taken a role in several videos from Sheryl Crow’s “Steve McQueen” to Nickelback’s “Rockstar.” However, there isn’t another experience like meeting Jay-Z or Beyoncé, who are both in an entirely separate stratosphere in the music industry.
Each has put together legendary music careers that have earned them much recognition and numerous awards over the last couple of decades. Earnhardt Jr. had his chance to garner some of the global shine and admiration associated with Jay-Z, which has only benefitted his popularity and stardom in the sports world.
Beyond that, it was an unforgettable experience that allowed him to meet two of the world’s biggest entertainment icons.
