The Dallas Cowboys: America’s Team the Most Hated Team in the NFL

The Dallas Cowboys are one of the most popular teams in the NFL. They are known worldwide for not only their team on the field, but also their cheerleaders, owner Jerry Jones, and former players.

But not everybody is in love with the Cowboys. While being one of the most popular teams in the world, they are also one of the most hated, and there are several reasons for it.

Jerry Jones

Jerry Jones has rubbed people the wrong way since his first day as the new owner of the Cowboys back in 1989.

He hasn’t exactly endured himself to Cowboy fans either, especially when he fired long-time beloved head coach Tom Landry. Although he won most of the fans back when he hired Jimmy Johnson and won back-to-back Super Bowls, fans couldn’t have been happy when he and Johnson parted ways.

The Cowboys have only won one championship since Johnson’s departure and have failed to make the playoffs a lot over the years.’

Jones is also disliked because of his stance on certain issues like kneeling at NFL games. One of his biggest critics is former Denver Broncos tight end Shannon Sharpe, who takes pleasure in taking shots at Jones and the Cowboys ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith has also made it no secret how he feels about the Cowboys too.

The name America’s Team isn’t going anywhere

The Cowboys are not the oldest team in the NFL (that would be the Chicago Bears and Arizona Cardinals, both founded in 1920), they’re not the winningest franchise (the Bears are), and they don’t have the most championships (the Steelers and Patriots have six Super Bowls each), but the Cowboys still get to call themselves America’s Team. They are No. 2 in all-time winning percentage (.569, just behind the Green Bay Packers), but that’s not why they have that nickname.

According to Bleacher Report, NFL Films bestowed the nickname in a 1978 highlight reel. The name stuck, and so America’s Team has resided in Dallas for more than 40 years.

Cowboys players can be extremely arrogant

The Dallas Cowboys Were One of Just Five NFL Teams Eligible for ‘Hard Knocks’ and Were Chosen Simply Because They’re More Interesting Than the Others

Michael Irvin, Thomas “Hollywood” Henderson, Dez Bryant, players that fans from other NFL teams love to hate because of their arrogance.

Irvin celebrated  touchdowns by doing a dance in the end zone., Bryant threw up a celebratory “X” with his arms after he scored, but Henderson was on a different level.

Henderson was a huge trash talker. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, he infamously quipped one time about Steelers quarterback Terry Bradshaw that he couldn’t spell the word cat even if you spotted him the C and the A.

Bradshaw didn’t let it bother him as he said, “This isn’t nuclear physics, it’s a game. How smart do you have to be?”

Although they haven’t won a Super Bowl in 25 years, the Cowboys will continue to be America’s Team whether NFL fans like it or not.
