The Eagles Sent All-Pro Center Jason Kelce ‘Two Kegs of Beer’ to Convince Him to Return in 2022

The Philadelphia Eagles are coming off a successful yet somewhat odd 2021 season. Despite being written off as bottom feeders during the offseason, the team latched onto a run-first mentality halfway through the year, literally running their way to a postseason spot.

Philadelphia was ultimately crushed during the Wild Card Round by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, it was still deemed a productive year for the franchise. Most oddsmakers had Philly winning no more than four games before the season began.

Jalen Hurts gets a lot of credit for the Eagles’ potent rushing attack. However, at the root of their success was the offensive line. Between Jason Kelce, Lane Johnson, Jordan Mailata, and rookie Landon Dickerson, Philly rostered some massive dudes up front.

Kelce, in particular, deserves a ton of credit for the unit’s success this past season. Not only is he the one responsible for calling out protections and queues at the line of scrimmage, but he also finished the year as a first-team All-Pro. It’s Kelce’s fourth time being named an All-Pro.

Without Kelce running the show in the middle of the O-Line, it’s hard to imagine the Eagles having as much success rushing as they did this past year.

Jason Kelce is considering retirement

Despite his stellar year, Kelce is reportedly considering retirement as he enters his 12th offseason in the NFL. He’s been contemplating hanging his cleats up for quite some time — this conversation has been popping up the past few years in Philadelphia.

Kelce is clearly still capable of playing at an extremely high level. However, he’s starting to get up there in age, and he’s been dealing with several nagging injuries over the past few seasons.

Throw in the fact that Philadelphia is in a bit of a rebuilding stage at the moment, and Kelce may not have the energy to help it through that.

Eagles HC sent Kelce ‘two kegs of beer’ in an attempt to convince him to return

With rumors already circulating about Kelce retiring this offseason, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni wasted little time attempting to butter the future Hall of Fame center up. According to Sirianni on the WIP Morning Show, he sent Kelce two full kegs of beer, trying to convince him to return for the 2022 season.

“I sent him two kegs of beer,” Sirianni said. “He’s awesome & I’ve told him how much we want him back … I’ll be trying to convince him every single day that I can to come back.”

While Philadelphia did draft a center in the second round of last year’s draft (Landon Dickerson, who played this past season at left guard), it makes perfect sense that the team would prefer to see Kelce return in 2022. Another year of All-Pro center play certainly makes life easier for everyone involved on the Eagles offense.

It’s also important to note that Kelce is technically a free agent this spring. It’s hard to imagine Kelce signing elsewhere as he’s played his entire career in Philadelphia. However, the Eagles would still have to fit him into their salary cap plans.

They can’t pay Kelce’s salary in beer.
