Former NBA Star Joe Johnson Is Back Playing Basketball, Just Not in the NBA

Seven-time NBA All-Star Joe Johnson is back playing basketball. But he’s not playing in the NBA. Johnson is competing in The Basketball Tournament. Founded in 2014, The Basketball Tournament is a single-elimination tournament played each summer.

This year’s tournament features 24 teams with a $1 million winner-take-all prize. The team that wins splits the money up evenly with players and coaches. Johnson gets to show that he still can play.

Before joining the Pistons during the preseason, he played in the BIG3 league and was named Big3 MVP and won the Big3 championship.

The team that Joe Johnson is playing with has had a lot of success

Johnson is playing with the Overseas Elite during The Basketball Tournament. Overseas Elite knows a thing or two about winning. The team consists of professional players that play outside of the NBA. The team won the tournament four consecutive years from 2015 to 2018. Overseas Elite won a total of $7 million over those four years.
