Golden Tate’s Wife Just Made Things Brutally Awkward for Him and the New York Giants

Throughout his career, Golden Tate has been a successful wide receiver on multiple teams. He even had a good season for the New York Giants in 2019. However, things are not going as well for Tate on the Giants this season. In addition to things not going well on the field, though, Tate’s wife, Elise Tate, just potentially made things pretty awkward for Golden and the New York Giants.

After going to the Seattle Seahawks in the second round of the 2010 NFL draft out of Notre Dame, Golden Tate has since been a reliable receiver throughout pretty much his entire career.

He had a couple of OK seasons for the Seahawks in 2010 and 2011, but Tate then became pretty important for Seattle in 2012. He caught 45 passes that year for 688 yards and seven touchdowns. Then, after catching 64 passes for 898 yards and five touchdowns in 2013 for Seattle, Tate became a star for the Detroit Lions in 2014. Tate earned the lone Pro Bowl selection of his career that year as he caught 99 passes for 1,331 yards and four touchdowns.

Tate ultimately gained over 1,000 receiving yards in three of his four full seasons with the Lions before getting traded to the Philadelphia Eagles during the 2018 season.

In 2019, though, Tate joined the New York Giants. He had a good season, too, as he gained 676 yards on 49 catches in only 11 games.

However, 2020 has not been as great for Tate. He has caught 22 passes for 226 yards in seven games this year. Additionally, in each of the team’s last three games, Tate has not been targeted more than three times.

Tate did make a crucial TD catch in the Giants’ Week 8 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, though. After the catch, he then yelled, “Throw me the ball!” into the TV camera, according to the New York Post.

His wife was not happy during the game

Tate clearly showed during the Giants’ Week 8 game that he is not happy about not getting many targets this year. His wife, Elise Tate, is not too happy either.

“Getting so many texts throughout the game GT WIDE OPEN WIDE OPEN WIDE OPEN. I KNOWWWWW,” she wrote on an Instagram story in response to New York’s game against Tampa, according to Yahoo Sports. “I mean yeah given ONE chance in the fourth quarter of course he comes down with the ball! He’s @showtimetate!! SO UNDER UTILIZED. AS HIS WIFE I CANNOT EVEN WATCH WITH ONE EYE OPEN!”

She continued: “Same exact thing last game. One target in the first quarter – of course – an epic TD. HE NEEDS TO [BE] FED THE BALL. Period. Watch the film.”

Elise also pointed out that Tate’s stats might not look great this year, but it’s not his fault.

“11yrs in the NFL I’ve never said something like this online,” Elise said, according to Yahoo Sports. “But it’s excruciating to watch and killing his stats this year but you can’t have yards on a few to no targets.”

This all occurred right before the NFL trade deadline. Things wouldn’t have been too awkward for Golden if the Giants had traded him before the deadline passed, but now he is stuck in an awkward situation.

The New York Giants did not trade Golden Tate

The NFL trade deadline came and went on Nov. 3, and the Giants did not trade Golden Tate.

The team made it seem like Tate’s frustrations weren’t a big deal, but that was probably before they saw what his wife’s posted.

“This guy comes to work every day with a good attitude,” Giants coach Joe Judge said, according to the New York Post. “We have a lot of fun with him, and he’s been productive for us. I thought it was a heck of a catch down the stretch.”

No matter what happens between Tate and the Giants the rest of the season, it will probably be kept in-house. He is still stuck in an awkward situation, though, which is partially his fault and partially his wife’s.
