How Antonio Brown May Have Blown His Shot to Join The Saints
It has been nothing short of a whirlwind last several months for star wide receiver Antonio Brown. That has seen him move through three separate teams to out of the NFL entirely for almost the entire 2019 season. Despite being under league investigation due to off-the-field legal issues, Brown has continued to garner interest from other organizations that led to a workout with the New Orleans Saints earlier this week. However, Brown may have already blown his shot to ever suit up with the Saints.
Antonio Brown gets a workout with the Saints
Over the last several weeks since being let go by the New England Patriots, Brown has maintained a keen interest in returning to the NFL.
Although his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, continued to float that are a few teams keeping an eye on him, there hadn’t been any movement on that front. That seemingly changed late this past week as he had went through a workout with the Saints on Friday.
There had been no previous public dialogue that New Orleans had been eyeballing a chance to bring in the Star wideout. The team already possesses arguably the game’s best player at the position in Michael Thomas, but the addition of Brown would give them the best 1-2 punch in the league.
However, there hasn’t been any movement on that front over the last couple of days, and it looks to be the star wideout’s doing that may have cost him a chance to latch onto the team.
Antonio Brown makes another questionable decision
The Saints brought in Brown for an unexpected workout this past week, which the team reportedly came back very impressed by his on-the-field work.
But there was a problem that arose as New Orleans instructed him not to bring an entourage to the workout. Brown ignored that request and decided to show up with a camera crew and entourage to the event, according to Mike Garofolo of the NFL Network.
“When you bring in Antonio Brown for a workout in Week 17, you also get a camera crew and an entourage. That’s what Antonio Brown showed up with yesterday — that’s what I was told — referred to by a Saints source as ‘the whole bleep show’ showed up with Antonio Brown.”
The report was further backed up by Jay Glazer of Fox Sports, stating the same notion on Sunday morning. It has become well-known over the last several months that Brown is documenting his entire NFL journey with a camera crew, which makes it no surprise that he has decided to go that route once again.
That becomes yet another example of how Brown may not be ready to take the entire process seriously at this point.
Will Antonio Brown get another shot in the NFL?
It may not have been the smartest moves to make from Brown, but the workout that he went through with the Saints does show there is some significant interest in his services. That was previously known with the Seattle Seahawks taking a look at him before signing Josh Gordon earlier this season.
There is no question Brown has the talent to be on an NFL roster as one of the primary targets in the passing game on a team, but it’s the legal hurdles that he must first get resolved. The league is also conducting a thorough investigation that has placed the possibility of a lengthy suspension. That alone could put another major step to go through first.
Ultimately, if the legal matters are resolved in favor, and the NFL makes its ruling on their investigation, then things will be able to proceed forward finally.
