How Does Floyd Mayweather’s Wealth Compare to the Richest Boxers Ever?

Floyd Mayweather is one of the most successful boxers in the history of the sport. Not only does he have an undefeated 50-0 record, but he’s also made a lot of money along the way. Here’s a look at just how much money Mayweather has made compared to other boxing greats

Net worth is a very difficult thing to assess, as Mayweather, while he’s been a boxer, also has other business ventures. On top of that, everyone has expenses, and Mayweather’s lavish lifestyle means that he doesn’t keep all the money that he makes. This makes it very hard to tell exactly how much he’s worth, but it’s still possible to make an estimate.

For example, it’s known that with a handful of fights over the course of about six years, Mayweather made more money than the entire UFC roster did, combined. Over the course of those years, Mayweather had made anywhere between $638 million to $750 million from his boxing bouts alone. But, those aren’t his career earnings, and Mayweather is one of the few athletes to make over $1 billion over his career.

That said, the most recent estimates say that Mayweather is worth about $560 million. But, other estimates have his net worth at over $1 billion. Regardless of what his net worth is, it’s a ridiculous amount of money, to say the least.

How much other boxers are worth

Sporty Tell says that, without a doubt, Floyd Mayweather is the richest boxer right now, and it’s not even a close contest. The five boxers who trail behind Mayweather are George Foreman at second place, Manny Pacquiao in third, Oscar De La Hoya in fourth, Lennox Lewis in fifth, and Sugar Ray Leonard in sixth. For reference, Sporty Tell says that boxing legend Muhammad Ali was in eighth place with a net worth of just $50 million.

If you’re a hardcore boxing fan, you may be seeing a trend. Foreman, Pacquiao, and De La Hoya all have successful business ventures outside of boxing in the ring themselves.

For example, Foreman has his famous novelty grills, Pacquiao is also a basketball player and a politician in his home country, and De La Hoya has his own boxing promotion, Golden Boy Promotions.

These business ventures allowed them to keep making money after slowing down their careers or straight up retiring. As a result, Sporty Tell says that Foreman has a net worth of $300 million and both Pacquiao and De La Hoya have a net worth of $200 million.

Lewis and Robinson haven’t had as successful careers post-boxing, but they still have high net worths of about $130 million and $120 million respectively.

What this says about Floyd Mayweather

While Floyd Mayweather is a great boxer, he’s also been a great businessman. That’s ultimately how he’s been able to make so much money for himself compared to his peers.

For example, Mayweather accepted an offer to fight a Japanese kickboxing star, Tenshin Nasukawa, for $9 million. This was a total mismatch of a fight, as Nasukawa was not only smaller than Mayweather, but also not an experienced boxer.

Mayweather easily won the fight in just over two minutes. This was a similar story with Mayweather’s fight against UFC star, Conor McGregor. While McGregor didn’t lose until the 10th round, Mayweather made the fight happen because he saw how much easy money he could make if he fought McGregor.

Indeed, in his forties, Mayweather put on a show and beat McGregor, all the meanwhile coming home with hundreds of millions in the bank. No other boxer could have done that but Mayweather. We don’t see his gravy train slowing down any time soon.
