How Joseph Benavidez Met His Wife and Popular UFC Commentator Megan Olivi

There are many power couples in sports, and this applies to the UFC, too. Although the most famous UFC couple may be Amanda Nunes and Nina Ansaroff, plenty of other couples train and compete in MMA. Let’s look at the relationship between fighter Joseph Benavidez and UFC host/reporter Megan Olivi

According to MEAWW, Olivi has pursued journalism for a long time now. In fact, she graduated from Fordham University with a degree in it. She got an internship at Fox News while in college, and eventually, after getting interested in MMA, she began working for Fox Sports. There, she reported on the UFC and other MMA organizations. Eventually, the UFC hired her as an interviewer and a host.

Benavidez’s story isn’t an unusual one. He began fighting in smaller MMA organizations before he made it to the UFC. However, unlike most UFC fighters, Benavidez is one of the best who’s never won a belt. He’s had four chances at winning. His first two being against Demetrious Johnson and his last two against Deiveson Figueiredo. He fell short all four times.

Despite those losses, he’s been a winner in pretty much every other fight that he’s had. In fact, in total, Benavidez has only lost to four fighters, and three of them are champs. Unsurprisingly, thanks to those wins, Olivi soon took notice of him.

Since the two worked in Vegas, they eventually met each other in 2009, according to MEAWW. It’s not clear when they started dating each other, but their chemistry was abundantly apparent. In 2010, after Benavidez choked out Wagnney Fabiano, Olivi interviewed him. The pair have been inseparable ever since.

Benavidez proposed to Olivi in 2014. A year later, they got married. While they currently don’t have any children, they’re proud parents to their dog, Ben. Although Benavidez has never won gold, his successful career has earned a lot of money. Similarly, Olivi’s UFC job is quite lucrative. She continues to do interviews and host shows.

According to NetWorthsPedia, she’s worth somewhere between $1 million to $5 million. Similarly, her husband has a relatively similar net worth, as he’s worth about $2.5 million.

Although Benavidez has won many fights, he’s lost a couple of them too. Olivi has seen them all. That’s why she tries to avoid watching her husband fight, according to MMAJunkie. In fact, one time, she waited in a hotel kitchen for 17 minutes, which was exactly how long Benavidez’s fight could’ve been, before returning to the arena to meet him.

That said, Olivi is a professional journalist for a reason. When they work on the same night, she’s as professional as she always is. But, when she’s not working and she decides to watch Benavidez fight, Olivi is nothing but supportive. Even after his devastating losses to Figueiredo, she was by his side consoling her husband.

This kind of love isn’t a one-way street, either. Although her career isn’t as dangerous as his job is, Benavidez supports Olivi as much as she supports him. They often publicly encourage each other on social media too.
