How Much Money Does Sean McVay Make per Year?

Sean McVay, the head coach of the Los Angeles Rams, is not only the youngest NFL coach ever, but he is also the youngest person to be named NFL Coach of the Year by the Pro Football Writers of America. He is also the youngest head football coach to bring his team to the Super Bowl.

At only 33 years old, just how much does Coach Sean McVay earn per year?

Sean McVay has football in his blood

According to his biography, Sean McVay was born in 1986 to a football family. His grandfather, John McVay, was the head coach at the University of Dayton from 1965 to 1972 and then went on to coach the New York Giants in the late ’70s.

As general manager of the San Francisco 49ers during the ’80s and ’90s, Granddaddy McVay won five Super Bowl rings. Sean’s father, Tim McVay, played college football at Indiana University as a defensive back.

Dedicated to the game

In high school, Sean McVay stood out as more than just a talented player, he was a true student of the game. He was continually asking his coach to watch more film and to call plays he was certain would work.

He was the first player in his school’s history to amass 1,000 yards rushing and passing in consecutive seasons. Right after a college football career where he played wide receiver for Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, he was hired by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as assistant wide receiver coach. He was only 22 years old at the time; younger than every wide receiver on the team.

In 2010, McVay was hired by the Washington Redskins as assistant tight ends coach. He then served as tight ends coach from 2011 through 2014, when he was promoted to offensive coordinator.

In January 2017, right before his 31st birthday, McVay was hired by the Los Angeles Rams to become their 28th head coach. This earned him the title of the youngest head coach in the NFL during the modern era. He led the Rams to the 2019 Super Bowl, but they lost to the New England Patriots, 13-3.

According to the New York Post, sportswriters refer to McVay as a “football genius” with the “most advanced offensive mind in the game” today. Sports Illustrated called him an “obsessive coach with zero work-life balance.” He is constantly looking for strategies to help his team improve and win.

Sean McVay’s net worth

Before being hired as head coach for the Rams, McVay earned around $400,00 a year as the offensive coordinator for the Redskins. When the Rams hired him in 2017, he signed a 5-year contract at $2 million per year.

According to Celebrity Net Worth, he still earns about $2 million per year and has a net worth of approximately $7 million. He’s not only the youngest head coach in the NFL, but that makes him one of the lowest-paid.

His California mansion

When Sean McVay moved to Los Angeles to take the head coach position, he purchased a $2.7 million mansion in Encino, California. Encino is located northwest of Beverly Hills behind the eastern tip of the Santa Monica Mountains.

Never married, he lives there with his gorgeous Ukrainian model girlfriend, Veronika Khomyn. The 4,666 square foot modern home includes six bedrooms, six bathrooms, and a pool. It has an open floor plan and a rebuilt kitchen. The master suite has panoramic views of downtown Los Angeles.

McVay has everything going for him in terms of career and personal life.
