Ryan Tannehill hails from Lubbock, Texas. The talented signal-caller redshirted in 2009 for his first college football season at Texas A&M, where he played wide receiver. Not until 2011 did he become the Aggies’ starting quarterback.

The Miami Dolphins selected Tannehill as the eighth pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. While in South Florida, he broke several league records, including the longest rush by a rookie quarterback. The same year that Tannehill joined the NFL, he married his college sweetheart, Lauren Ufer. They have two children.

As starting QB for the Dolphins, Tannehill played in 88 games over six seasons with a 62.8% completion rate. According to Pro Football Reference, he totaled 123 TDs, 75 interceptions, and 20,434 passing yards.

In 2019, Tannehill began playing for the Titans. That season, he led the team to the AFC Championship Game. He also played in his first Pro Bowl and earned NFL Comeback Player of the Year honors.

The Texas A&M alum has a current completion rate of 66.6%. His career stats to date with the Titans include 7,812 passing yards, 61 touchdown passes, and 16 interceptions.

Ryan Tannehill’s height, weight, net worth, and more

The Titans starting quarterback stands 6 feet 4 inches tall and weighs 217 pounds.

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Tannehill has an estimated net worth of $50 million. In 2012, the rookie quarterback signed a four-year deal with the Dolphins valued at $12.7 million.

Last year, the Tennessee Titans offered Tannehill a four-year, $118 million contract. Spotrac reports the deal included a $29.5 million annual salary and $91 million in total guarantees. He also received a $20 million signing bonus.

Tannehill secured an impressive deal with the Titans after a one-year extension contract with the Dolphins worth only $2 million.

According to Forbes, he also has several endorsement deals valued at about $300,000 per year. Sponsors include Adidas, Panini, and Regenexx.

What is the average height of an NFL quarterback?

Sportskeeda reports that most NFL quarterbacks “stand well over 6’0″ and weigh in the 215-250 lbs range.” Tannehill falls into the sweet spot that coaches and scouts desire.

The tallest quarterback in the NFL is Mike Glennon, the backup for the New York Giants. He stands at 6’7″. Super Bowl-winning QB Nick Foles, formerly of the Philadelphia Eagles, stands at a commanding 6’6″. Justin Herbert of the Los Angeles Chargers is one of the biggest and tallest, weighing 236 pounds and standing 6’6″.

But not all QBs are quite that tall. According to Men’s Journal, the average height for NFL quarterbacks is 6’3″, with many successful QBs being slightly smaller in stature. Seattle Seahawks Russell Wilson is the shortest current QB in the league at 5’11”. And retired quarterback Doug Flutie almost didn’t make it into the NFL with a height of only 5’10”.

So, why are taller quarterbacks so valuable? A recent study published in ScienceAdvances shows that “taller athletes have advantages due to having better ‘spatial relationships’ and a ‘better perspective of the ground.'”
