How the Browns Signaled Odell Beckham Jr. Remains in Future Plans

In the latter portion of the 2019 season, there were plenty of troubling rumors around the Cleveland Browns. Much of that stemmed from their internal conflict that was compounded by the team’s shortcomings on the field. Among that was chatter that star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. wanted out from the team despite it being his first campaign. The noise on that front has quieted on that front in the last several weeks, and the latest droplet of news looks to indicate the team has Beckham Jr. in their long-term plans.

Odell Beckham Jr.’s bumpy first year with Browns

It wasn’t a smooth first year in Cleveland by any means for Beckham Jr. after a busy offseason that created much hype around the franchise.

However, the team struggled to find any consistency, which primarily came on the offensive side of the ball. Then-head coach Freddie Kitchens had evident struggles in adjusting to the position in his first time in that role.

The expectation was that Beckham Jr. would be a significant factor in the offense, but he struggled to find his role while he dealt with a sports hernia injury that required offseason surgery. He finished with more than 1,000 receiving yards for the fifth time in his first six years in the league, but it didn’t blanket was a rough year that saw rumor floating around that he was telling other teams to get him along with him stating that he was unsure about his future.

All that dialogue has since quieted down, and there may be even more optimism about him remaining with the Browns.

Browns showing Odell Beckham Jr. is in their plans

During the Scouting Combine last week, new general manager Andrew Berry spoke glowingly about Beckham Jr.

That only painted a more prominent picture that he’s in their long-term plans. However, there may be an even more telling action that proves that as Beckham Jr. has been involved in photoshoots for the team’s new uniforms for next season, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. (H/T WKYC)

“As the Cleveland Browns get set to unveil some new uniforms in April, they’ve done some of the shoots — very confidential, hopefully for them, nothing leaks. Among the players very very involved in their uniform reveal is Odell Beckham Jr.

“If you wondered, ‘Is this organization planning to have him for 2020?’ the answer, very clearly, is yes. Because he is — among other reasons — going to model their uniforms. Throw all that into a big pile when you consider that Odell is also probably going to be more involved in the offseason programs and that he’s been much healthier than he was last year. It sounds like he will be a Brown in 2020.”

The fact that the Browns have chosen Beckham Jr. as one of the players to model their new uniforms further backs what Berry recently stated. Cleveland hopes to bounce back after a disappointing 2019 season, and their star wideout figures to play a massive part in that turnaround.

What to expect from Odell Beckham Jr. in 2020

Last season may have been filled with more internal issues than on-the-field success, but the team has moved forward with a clean slate by bringing in a new head coach in Kevin Stefanski.

It’s also a chance for Beckham Jr. to push forward after a disappointing year. He will enter the offseason healthy after a sports hernia surgery while he has chemistry to build off with third-year quarterback Baker Mayfield, who is also looking to put last year’s struggles behind him.

The 2020 season should be a chance for Beckham Jr. to put himself back on the map as one of the premier players at his position statistically. It’s another for Beckham Jr., and the Browns to reach their promising potential.
