Jemele Hill Earned a Crazy Amount of Money at ESPN

Jemele Hill has been known for not being afraid to give her opinion. From ESPN to The Atlantic to even being extremely active on Twitter, Hill has always been an activist for what she believes in. This was even the case on Thursday in a tweet about New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft. So, with everything she has done in her career, what is Hill’s net worth?

Jemele Hill was a popular face on ESPN

After working at places like the Raleigh News & Observer, the Detroit Free Press, and The Orlando Sentinel, Jemele Hill joined ESPN as a columnist on ESPN.com in 2006, according to The Hollywood Reporter. She then started appearing on television shows including, The Sports Reporters, Outside the Lines, First Take, and SportsCenter.

After having a show titled His & Hers with co-host Michael Smith, Hill and Smith then became co-anchors on the rebranded SportsCenter in 2017 called SC6. The show did not work out well, to say the least. During her time on SC6, Hill was even in a controversy with President Donald Trump.

Hill tweeted this in September 2017.

She also went on to tweet, “Trump is the most ignorant, offensive president of my lifetime. His rise is a direct result of white supremacy. Period.” ESPN did not seem too happy about the comments as the network released a statement, saying they addressed the issue with Hill and that she recognized her actions were inappropriate.

There was still some backlash over this as former White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said, “I think that’s one of the more outrageous comments that anyone could make and certainly something that I think is a fireable offense by ESPN,” according to NBC News. President Trump even responded as he tweeted, “With Jemele Hill at the mike, it is no wonder ESPN ratings have ‘tanked,’ in fact, tanked so badly it is the talk of the industry.”

Weeks later, Hill criticized Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones on Twitter after he threatened to bench players who kneeled during the national anthem, according to The Huffington Post. This resulted in ESPN suspending Hill.

Hill then left SC6 in 2018. Then in September 2018, Hill left ESPN and has since been a writer at The Atlantic.

Criticizing New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft

On Thursday, The Boston Globe tweeted out a story about how New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft and his family, “deployed a New England Patriots team plane to China to deliver about one million desperately needed N95 respirator masks to health care workers in Massachusetts.” Kraft is now on the long list of people helping others during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hill, however, had something she wanted to remind people about Robert Kraft and she did so in a tweet.

This ultimately got a lot of backlash from Twitter uses as Kraft was trying to be proactive and help people in need. Cleveland Indians’ pitcher Logan Allen didn’t like her tweet too well either as he tweeted in response, “Why can’t this just be a nice gesture done by the Kraft family? People these days twist EVERYTHING. You’re part of the problem.”

So, with all of the controversy Hill has been a part of, how much is she worth?

Hill earned a lot of money at ESPN

In June 2018, The Hollywood Reporter wrote a story about ESPN and politics titled, “ESPN’s Internal Political Divide: Bristol Tradition vs. ‘Woke’ Reformers.”

This piece, of course, touched on Hill’s time on SC6 as politics were a big topic on the show. It also said that Hill and her co-host on SC6 Michael Smith each had four-year deals with ESPN worth $10 million each. Additionally, The Hollywood Reporter did a piece later in 2018 after Hill and ESPN went their separate ways. The article reported that Hill had a buyout with ESPN worth more than $5 million.

In all, Hill has earned a lot of money in her career. This has led to her earning a net worth of $4 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth

So, was she worth all of that money? She definitely did a lot of solid work in her 12 years at ESPN but also hurt the network at times. The answer to that question probably depends on who you are asking. However, there are a couple of things that are certain. Jemele Hill has opinions that will not be silenced, and she has been well-compensated for them over the course of her career.
