In 2014 when Jimmy Butler was on the Chicago Bulls, Nazr Mohammed recorded the Marquette product singing and dancing to a Taylor Swift song. That clip has recently come back to bite Butler, although it did get Swift’s attention as well.
Dwyane Wade gives Jimmy Butler a 9/10 for his Taylor Swift video
Jimmy Butler joined the TNT postgame show on Tuesday, and Dwyane Wade, Shaquille O’Neal, and Adam Lefkoe pulled up Butler’s 2014 video of him dancing and singing to Taylor Swift. Wade, who was bashed for giving Orlando Magic forward Aaron Gordon a 9/10 after the high-flyer dunked over Boston Celtics big man Tacko Fall in the 2020 Slam Dunk Contest, gave Butler a 9/10.
Butler and Wade are close friends. They played one season together on the Bulls in 2016-17. Now that Butler is the new Heat franchise player in the post-Wade era, Jimmy and D-Wade’s relationship has grown even stronger.
When Nazr Mohammed filmed him in 2013, Butler wasn’t the superstar he is today. As a result, the video Mohammed took didn’t go viral since Butler was a role player on the Bulls.
However, now that he’s one of the NBA’s top players and the face of the Heat, Jimmy Butler can’t do anything these days without getting noticed. Luckily for the rugged defender, Taylor Swift finally saw Butler’s 2014 video and reacted to it on social media.
Taylor Swift gives Jimmy Butler a 13/10
Taylor Swift replied to NBA on TNT’s tweet and gave Jimmy Butler a 13/10 for his singing and dancing skills. After all these years, the five-time All-Star finally got the attention of his favorite artist.
The 2020-21 season has been rough for Butler and the Heat, so Swift’s reply has to feel good for the 31-year-old Texas native. Butler not only contracted COVID-19 and lost a bunch of weight, but the Heat are struggling as a team after reaching the NBA Finals last season.
Butler has appeared in 17 games for the Heat in 2020-21. He’s averaging 19.1 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 7.7 assists while shooting 44.0% from the field, 16.0% from beyond the arc, and 85.3% from the free-throw line. The Heat are only 12-17 and in 11th place in the Eastern Conference standings.
The hope in Miami is that Jimmy Butler and Co. can turn things around and get back into the playoff picture. Maybe Taylor Swift’s high score of Butler on Twitter will be the spark the Heat need to go on a winning streak.
The Heat may regret not trading for James Harden
The Heat were one of the teams interested in trading for James Harden. However, the front office–led by Pat Riley–didn’t want to part ways with members of the core to acquire the former MVP.
Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo should be the only untouchable players on the Heat. Riley should have pulled the trigger on a Harden deal if the Houston Rockets wanted Tyler Herro, Duncan Robinson, Precious Achiuwa, and Kendrick Nunn.
The Heat may regret not trading for James Harden and pairing him with Jimmy Butler. If Miami misses the playoffs after taking the LA Lakers to six games in the 2020 Finals, there could be some big changes in South Beach after the season.
