Keyshawn Johnson Has a Ridiculously Simple Request of the Bears’ Next QB: ‘Stop Making Everything So Damn Complicated’

Former NFL star wideout Keyshawn Johnson has carved out a solid career at ESPN ever since his playing days ended. The three-time Pro Bowler and one-time Super Bowl champion recently used his football expertise to help the Chicago Bears solve their quarterback problem.

After not trading for Carson Wentz, the Bears will either start Mitchell Trubisky or Nick Foles at quarterback next season or sign someone in free agency. Most experts don’t expect Chicago to trade for Deshaun Watson since the Houston Texans superstar has a no-trade clause in his contract, and there haven’t been any reports stating Watson wants to play for the Bears.

Since the Bears have a stout defense led by Khalil Mack and Akiem Hicks, Keyshawn Johnson has a straightforward request of Chicago’s next quarterback.

Keyshawn Johnson says the Bears should fix Mitchell Trubisky

Keyshawn Johnson says Matt Nagy and the Bears should fix Mitchell Trubisky since the former No. 2 overall pick is still young and athletic enough to move around the pocket. The ESPN NFL pundit claims it’s Nagy’s job to get the best out of Trubisky since he was hired in 2018 for that purpose.

“If you’re supposed to be this hella offensive coordinating mind, fix the damn thing,” Johnson said. “What are you getting paid for? You get paid to fix players that you believe in. That’s what you get paid to do. Fix it. He was brought there to fix Trubisky.”

Trubisky becomes a free agent this offseason. Johnson believes the Bears are better off re-signing him instead of giving up assets to acquire someone like Sam Darnold, who isn’t that much better than Trubisky.

If the Bears choose not to re-sign Mitchell Trubisky and don’t feel confident with Nick Foles under center, Keyshawn Johnson says Chicago needs a QB who will be efficient.

Keyshawn Johnson has a simple message for the Bears

Keyshawn Johnson has a simple message for the Bears and their quarterback dilemma. The California native says if he were running Chicago, he would start a quarterback who doesn’t try to do too much and makes the right, safe play more often than not.

“I just need somebody that’s not going to screw it up,” Johnson said. “And I need–as an offensive coordinator and a front office guy–I need to calm the waters on what I’m doing from an offensive system. Stop making everything so damn complicated. Keep it simple. You don’t need to be a guru to be successful. You don’t need to be.”

It sounds like Johnson is taking shots at Matt Nagy.

Nagy is always calling these elaborate offensive plays that don’t put any of his players in successful positions. Mitchell Trubisky can’t read defenses that well, and the Bears’ offensive line is poor, so Chicago needs a QB who makes quick decisions with the ball in his hands.

Now that Carson Wentz is on the Indianapolis Colts, it will be interesting to see who the Bears will start at QB in 2021. Keyshawn Johnson says Chicago needs to get out of its own head and simplify things for Mitchell Trubisky–or whoever is under center–moving forward.

The Bears didn’t fire Matt Nagy or Ryan Pace after the 2020 season. Chicago fans were distraught since the franchise hasn’t shown any improvement over the last two seasons.

If the Bears trade for New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold, there could be riots in Chicago, as Darnold and Mitchell Trubisky are basically the same NFL QB.
