Golden State Warriors shooting guard Klay Thompson is aggressively attacking his right Achilles rehab and performing basketball drills no player should achieve while recovering from such a devastating injury.
While Warriors fans severely miss watching Klay Thompson play basketball, they certainly got excited about next season after recently seeing a 50-second video.
Klay Thompson is coming back from two serious injuries
Klay Thompson is coming back from two significant injuries. He tore his left ACL in Game 6 of the 2019 Finals versus the Toronto Raptors and missed the entire 2019-20 season.
The All-Star guard was supposed to play in 2020-21, but he tore his right Achilles tendon before the campaign started. The next time Warriors fans will see Thompson play will be in 2021-22.
One of the greatest shooters in NBA history, Thompson has career averages of 19.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.3 assists with the Warriors while shooting 45.9% from the field, 41.9% from beyond the arc, and 84.8% from the free-throw line. He’s a five-time All-Star and has won three championships.
Many NBA aficionados are worried that Klay Thompson won’t be a star when he comes back since he’s suffered two consequential injuries. However, the 31-year-old recently sent a message to the league that he will be his usual dominant self in 2021-22.
Klay Thompson made 12 3-pointers in a row without jumping
Klay Thompson made 12 3-pointers in a row from the corner without even jumping at the Warriors’ practice facility. The California native hasn’t been cleared to jump yet, but that didn’t stop Thompson from making it rain.
That jumper is beautiful to watch. If you question whether Thompson will wreak havoc on defenses with his jumper next season, you may want to change that line of thinking.
The Warriors should be title contenders in 2021-22 once Thompson returns to the lineup next to Stephen Curry, James Wiseman, Draymond Green, and Andrew Wiggins. Curry and Thompson, aka The Splash Brothers, are eager to win another title, especially since many critics believe the Warriors’ dynasty is over now that two-time Finals MVP Kevin Durant is on the Brooklyn Nets.
The basketball world misses Klay Thompson, but the future Hall of Famer can’t rush back since Achilles injuries are tough to rehab. The good news is that Killa Klay’s jumper is still astonishing.
Can the Warriors make the playoffs this season?
Without Klay Thompson, the Warriors are in ninth place in the rugged Western Conference standings. Two-time MVP Stephen Curry is averaging 29.0 points and 6.2 assists per game, but no other Warriors player is putting up 20.0 points.
Golden State finished with the worst record in the NBA last season before games were suspended in March due to COVID-19. They drafted James Wiseman out of Memphis with the second overall pick in the 2020 draft.
It will be interesting to see if the Warriors can make the playoffs this season. They should qualify for the play-in tournament and give themselves a chance, but the offensive burden is too high on Curry without Thompson.
That’s why the return of Klay Thompson next season will be enormous.
