Kobe Bryant Fans Love Nike’s First Shoe Announcement Since His Death
It has been a couple of months since the tragic passing of former Los Angeles Lakers great Kobe Bryant and his daughter Giana along with seven others in a helicopter accident. The process of moving forward has been difficult at times but has also offered a chance to reflect and further embrace Bryant. That also been a tough situation for the companies the former star guard was involved with over the years. In light of that, Nike has stepped forward with a new shoe that fans of the soon-to-be first-ballot Hall of Famer have quickly fallen in love with the product.
Nike releases Mamba Fury
In the last couple of months since Bryant‘s passing, Nike has among the various companies that worked with the star guard that has remained respectfully quiet in Bryant’s honor.
That has seen little to no social media activity related to Bryant over the last several weeks. However, Nike has stepped forward to release a brand new shoe named the “Mamba Fury” that was released last week.
It marks the first shoe to be dropped since Bryant’s passing that has already garnered comparisons to having a similar style to the Nike Mamba Focus. These shoes utilize a phylon midsole, and both have almost mirroring patterns on the outsole.
The expectation is that the Fury will be a more affordable model that will sell for below $100. Bryant’s shoes over the years have typically been above that threshold, but have remained one of the more popular basketball shoes due to their various designs while being backed by the former Lakers great.
It’s not the first shoe that was created by Bryant’s team that was a budget-friendly product as others such as KB Mentality, Kobe Venomenon, Mamba Instinct, Mamba Rage, and Mamba Focus all fell under that category.
Nike Mamba Fury Sells Out
With that in mind, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that Bryant’s new shoe has quickly sold out before hitting the market.
That was come to be expected given the situation as it’s the first released shoe since his passing. Fans of the soon-to-be Hall of Famer had set that standard as his products were sold out within hours after the tragic incident in late January. It reached the point where Nike had to pull his product offline a few days after his death.
There is a strong connection with Bryant that will make any production that is released in regards to him become a much-wanted item that quickly sells out. That said, the fact that the Mamba Fury has sold out that fast only further cements that being the case.
More Kobe Bryant shoes to come
The Fury has quickly become a popular product that could hit the resale market for higher prices for the next few weeks as fans move to get their hands on the product.
Meanwhile, it has set the stage for other shoes from Bryant’s product line to hit the market over the coming months. One that had garnered some headway earlier this year shortly after the star guard’s passing was the Nike Zoom Kobe 5 Protro “Lakers” that was set to be released on March 26.
However, that was pushed back as there is now no date for the product at this point. It’s a shoe that was worn by both Lakers star big man Anthony Davis and San Antonio Spurs star guard DeMar DeRozan this season. The design is a remake of the shoe that was released in 2010 and was worn when Bryant won his fifth and final NBA title against the Boston Celtics.
It may just be the tip of the iceberg for the upcoming shoes and other apparel that will drop in the coming months from Nike in honor of Bryant.
