LaMelo Ball Is So Spectacular That He Gets to Call Michael Jordan a Name No One Else Does

Charlotte Hornets point guard LaMelo Ball is running away with the Rookie of the Year Award, making Michael Jordan look like a smart guy. Jordan and the Hornets drafted Ball with the third overall pick in the 2020 draft after the Minnesota Timberwolves selected Anthony Edwards and the Golden State Warriors took James Wiseman.

LaMelo Ball is playing so well with the Hornets that he gets to call Michael Jordan a name no one else in Charlotte does. That’s pretty noteworthy, considering Jordan is the greatest basketball player of all time.

LaMelo Ball is filling up the stat sheet during his rookie season. He’s averaging 15.9 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 6.1 assists while shooting 45.1% from the field, 37.5% from beyond the arc, and 78.9% from the free-throw line.

Meanwhile, back in 1984-85 with the Chicago Bulls, Jordan put up 28.2 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 5.9 assists as a rookie. He won the Rookie of the Year Award and made the All-Star team.

Ball plays point guard for the Hornets and loves dishing the rock to his teammates. He’s the youngest player in NBA history to register a triple-double and has a polished game for a 19-year-old.

As for Jordan, he was more of a scorer than a passer during his playing days. During his rookie season with the Bulls, Jordan scored at least 40 points seven times. Ball won’t get to that number in his rookie year with Charlotte despite being talented.

Michael Jordan and LaMelo Ball have already developed a strong bond. In fact, the new Hornets star and his boss are basically like family now.

LaMelo Ball told Hornets reporters that he calls Michael Jordan “Unc” whenever they talk. “Unc” is short for uncle.

Jordan and Ball have a family-type of relationship already. The Bulls legend is 39 years older than Ball and available to give the youngster any advice or support he needs.

How cool must it be for Ball to have Jordan as his boss? Even though LaMelo never saw MJ play, he’s obviously watched enough highlights to know what Jordan means to basketball and how influential his voice is.

LaVar Ball may be LaMelo’s father, but right now, a case can be made that Jordan is the most important male figure in Ball’s life.

Since buying the Hornets, Jordan hasn’t had much success as an owner. However, with Ball in the fold as Charlotte’s new franchise player in the post-Kemba Walker era, MJ finally has a box office player to build around.

Like Michael Jordan did for the Bulls back in the day, LaMelo Ball is looking to win the Rookie of the Year Award with the Hornets and lead the franchise to the promised land. The point guard has a huge asset at his disposal in Jordan and will likely go to the six-time champion for guidance when he needs it.

The Hornets should either make the playoffs or qualify for the play-in tournament

The Hornets are 20-21 on the season, good for eighth place in the Eastern Conference standings. Michael Jordan’s team should either make the playoffs or qualify for the play-in tournament.

With LaMelo Ball, Gordon Hayward, Terry Rozier, Devonte’ Graham, Miles Bridges, and PJ Washington leading the way, the Hornets have a bright future, a phrase we haven’t said since Michael Jordan became the owner.
