LeBron James and Kyrie Irving will always be linked to each other for the time they spent together on the Cleveland Cavaliers. They had a ton of success together. Individually, though, James is one of the greatest players to ever play in the league, while Irving still needs to prove that he can have success without James. LeBron James’ success has led to him having a much higher net worth than Irving. How much higher is it, though?
LeBron James and Kyrie Irving had a lot of success together
After playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers from 2003-04 through 2009-10, and then spending four seasons with the Miami Heat, LeBron James returned to the Cavaliers in the summer of 2014. He joined Irving, who the Cavs drafted No. 1 overall in 2011.
Those two, along with Kevin Love, ended up leading that organization to great heights. The Cavaliers went to the NBA Finals in their first season together in 2014-15. However, Irving suffered an injury in Game 1 of the Finals. The Cavaliers then ultimately lost to the Golden State Warriors in six games.
In their second season together, though, James, Irving, and Love led the Cavaliers to the mountaintop. The Cavaliers went 57-25 in the regular season and ultimately faced the 73-win Warriors in the Finals. The Cavaliers found themselves down 3-1 in the series but somehow came back and won in seven games. Irving and James had remarkable performances in Game 5 of that series too as they both scored 41 points.
Irving, James, and the Cavaliers went back to the NBA Finals together in 2017 and faced the Warriors again. The Warriors, however, added Keven Durant, which led to them winning the series in five games.
That was the last season Irving and James played together.
The drama around their breakup
Irving requested a trade from the Cleveland Cavaliers in the summer of 2017. It seemed to have a lot to do with Irving wanting to separate himself from James, as reported in The Ringer.
The Cavaliers ended up trading Irving to the Boston Celtics, and the two teams played each other in the Eastern Conference Finals that next season too. Irving was hurt, though, and the Cavaliers won the series to go to the team’s fourth straight NBA Finals.
James then left the Cavaliers and went to the Los Angeles Lakers in 2018, but Irving eventually apologized during the 2018-19 season.
“I had to call ’Bron, and tell him I apologize for being that young player that wanted everything at his fingertips,” Irving said in January 2019, according to The Ringer. Irving said this while he was trying to be the one to lead the Celtics to a championship, which did not happen as the Celtics lost in the Eastern Conference Semifinals that season.
“I wanted to be the guy that led us to a championship. I wanted to be the leader. I wanted to be all that,” Irving said, according to The Ringer.
Irving also said that James had been in the situation that Irving was in.
“He’s been there with me, where I’ve been the young guy, been the 22-year-old kid, wanting everything, wanting everything right now,” Irving said, according to Mass Live.
LeBron James has a much higher net worth than Kyrie Irving, but by how much?
LeBron James has been playing in the NBA since 2003. He is a 16-time NBA All-Star, a four-time NBA MVP, a three-time NBA champion, and a three-time NBA Finals MVP.
Irving, on the other hand, is a six-time NBA all-star. He won the one championship with the Cavaliers, and he has only played in the league since 2011.
So, with James having a lot more success, and with his career being much longer than Irving’s so far, James has ultimately racked up a net worth that is more than five times higher than Irving’s.
James and Irving have both had a lot of success in their NBA careers, and they have both racked up nice net worths. Irving has a lot of work to do, though, if he wants to catch up to James.
