LeBron James Rookie Card Sets a Record With Massive $960,000 Bid

In 2003, everyone knew who the No. 1 pick for the NBA draft would be. When the Cleveland Cavaliers selected LeBron James, that’s when the legacy began. James has been in the NBA for 17 seasons and has established himself as one of the greats.

He has impacted the game a lot and has had a lot of success. James has had so much success that one of his NBA rookie cards is worth a lot of money.

LeBron James the rookie sensation

There was a lot of hype surrounding James when he first came into the league, and he lived up to it. In his first NBA game, he scored 25 points against the Sacramento Kings, which set an NBA record for most points scored by a player coming out of high school in his debut. James was named the NBA Rookie of the Year and became the first Cavalier to win the award. He finished his rookie season averaging 20.9 points, 5.9 assists, and 5.5 rebounds per game. The Akron, Ohio native became the third player in league history to average at least 20 points, five rebounds, and five assists as a rookie.

Even though the Cavaliers improved from the previous season, they failed to make the playoffs finishing the season with a 35-47 record. But the future looked bright for Cleveland because they had a star in the making. James displayed star talent as a rookie and showed leadership ability. For him to come straight out of high school and have success as a rookie speaks volumes to how much he impacted the game.

Looking at that Cavaliers team James’ rookie season, there was no question who the best player was. He took the responsibility early on of being a leader, and at the same time, he knew how and when to get his teammates involved. James has certainly matured and developed his game throughout his NBA career.

LeBron James becoming one of the best all-time

When you mention some of the greats to play in the league, James’ name is in that conversation. After his rookie season, he took the league by storm and put up some impressive numbers. He became a star on and off the court. When he took his team to the 2007 NBA Finals in his fourth year, people realized how much of an impact he had. You take James off that team, and they do not make it to the finals.

Even though the Spurs swept the Cavaliers in the finals, James played at a high-level and let the NBA world know that he would be back in the finals in just a matter of time. Cleveland’s decision was a tough one for James, but it worked out for him because he won two championships with the Miami Heat. Once he returned to Cleveland, he was able to bring the Cavaliers their first title in franchise history. James has an impressive resume, and he looks to add on to that during his time in Los Angeles. He wants to bring a title back to the Lakers organization, and he will have a good chance to do so when the NBA season returns.

LeBron James rookie card is going for a lot of money

The success that James has had throughout his career has paid off in many ways. Some people enjoy buying and trading cards of professional athletes. One card, in particular, is James’ rookie card. It could possibly sell for $1 million. Almost a week ago, a James 2003-2004 Upper Deck Exquisite rookie card drew a lot of interest when it reached the auction block. The card broke the record for the most expensive modern-day card with a $960,000 bid.

The card is being auctioned off by Goldin Auctions and will be up to bid until July 18. The previous record was set over two months ago when a Mike Trout card went for $922,500. The James rookie card is one of 23 cards that exits. It’s amazing to see how much these cards can sell for nowadays. It won’t be a surprise if that card does sell for over $1 million.
