Malcolm Jenkins Fires Emotional Message Toward Drew Brees After Kneeling Protest Comments

The recent passing of George Floyd due to mistreatment by the Minneapolis police has created a strong uproar for significant change. That has also pushed forward the discussion around former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s decision to kneel to bring awareness and attention to the social injustices that African-Americans face daily in the United States.

It didn’t take long for that pot to be stirred again as New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees laid out a tone-deaf stance to the situation that hasn’t rubbed many of his peers the right way. One of his current teammates Malcolm Jenkins, has had a strong response to the comments that essentially told Brees to shut his mouth.

Saints quarterback Drew Brees put himself in the headlines for the wrong reason on Wednesday afternoon after his comments regarding kneeling during the national anthem.

That topic arose during an interview with Yahoo Finance while discussing the possibility of kneeling taking place in the 2020 season in light of the recent tragic events. Brees took the question and ran with it in the manner that he stated he will never listen to someone that kneels because it’s disrespecting the United States Flag.

“I will never agree with anybody disrespecting the flag of the United States of America, or our country. Let me just tell you what I see, what I feel, when the national anthem is played, and when I look at the flag of the United States. I envision my two grandfathers, who fought for this country during World War II, one in the Army, and one in the Marine Corps. Both risking their lives to protect our country, and to try and make our country, and this world, a better place. So every time I stand with my hand over my heart, looking at that flag and singing the national anthem, that’s what I think about.”

Brees went on to state that he believes that standing and showing respect to the flag will make everyone a part of the greater solution. It didn’t take long for those comments to get significant backlash.

Drew Brees’ comments quickly raced across all social media platforms, creating a significant amount of strong criticism toward him.

One of which came from his teammate Malcolm Jenkins, who had a long and thorough response to the situation. It’s the tail end of his statement from the now-deleted video that has caught the most traction as he voiced his lost respect from Brees and told him to shut his mouth.

“Our communities are under siege, and we need help. What you’re telling us is, ‘Don’t ask for help that way. Ask for it a different way. I can’t listen when you ask that way.’ We’re done asking, Drew. People who share your sentiments, who express those and push them throughout the world, the airwaves, are the problem. And it’s unfortunate, because I considered you a friend, I looked up to you as somebody I had a great deal of respect for, but sometimes you should shut the f**k up.”

It shouldn’t come as a surprise as Jenkins is one of the most outspoken players in the NFL as the Players’ Coalition, created to help address the social injustices in the United States. What is most telling is that it’s likely more than that from the Saints’ perspective as Brees’ comments may have had a similar impact on many other players on the roster.

Drew Brees’ comments have made their rounds and the initial feedback has seen strong criticism toward the star quarterback.

His stance lacked any connection or acknowledgement toward what minorities, especially the black community, have to deal with daily regarding social injustice. It’s the constant unfair and unjust treatment that many have to endure because of the ignorance and flat out racism.

Brees has attempted to clarify his statement, but it has shown his real feelings toward the matter that has lost respect from many of his peers in the NFL and other professional sports.
