Mike Trout’s MLB career

In 2009 the Los Angeles Angels selected Trout with the 29th overall pick in the MLB draft. Trout began his professional career playing for the Arizona Angels of the rookie-level Arizona League. Before the start of the 2010 season, Baseball America had Trout as the Angels’ third-best prospect and the 85th best in baseball. He had success playing in the farm system, and in 2011 he made his major league debut.

On July 8, 2011, Trout played in his first major league game for the Angels. He went 0-for-3 during that game but would record his first major league hit the next game against the Seattle Mariners. His first major league home run came on July 24, 2011, against the Baltimore Orioles. Trout would spend time back and forth in the minors and the majors later that season. He played in 40 major league games and finished with a .220 batting average and a .390 slugging percentage. That season he was named Baseball America Minor League Player of the Year.

During the 2012 season, Trout started in the minors but was called up to the majors earlier than the previous season. At 20-years-old, Trout had an impressive season. He was named to the all-star team in his first full season and won the AL Rookie of the Year. He also was a Silver Slugger Award winner. That season he had a .326 batting average with 30 home runs and 49 stolen bases. His 49 stolen bases led the American League.

Trout becoming a dominant player in the majors

After his rookie season, Trout began to take the majors by storm. He was the most exciting player to watch. He possessed all the necessary tools to make him one of the top players in all of baseball. Just two years after he won the AL Rookie of the Year, he was named the AL MVP in 2014. That season he finished with a .287 batting average with 36 home runs, 111 RBIs, and 115 runs scored.

Trout has been a member of the all-star team since 2012 and has won a total of three AL MVP awards. He also has seven Silver Slugger awards and is a two-time Hank Aaron Award winner. The Hank Aaron Award is given to the top hitter in each league.

In 2019, Trout signed a big-time contract with the Angels. He signed a 12-year $430 million extension with the team when news broke out about Trout’s new deal, that caused a lot of reaction across social media and the sports world.

According to an article from Forbes, Trout’s 2019 contract was worth more than a good amount of Major League soccer teams. On three teams had a higher value than Trout’s contract in 2019, and those teams were the Atlanta United ($500 million), L.A. Galaxy ($480 million), and LAFC ($475 million).
