He finished with the same batting average from the previous season and had 18 home runs with 77 RBIs and 21 stolen bases. Betts had a breakout year during his third season. He made his first All-Star team and won his first Gold Glove and Silver Slugger award while finishing second in the MVP voting. That season he batted .318 with 31 home runs, 113 RBIs, and 26 stolen bases.

Betts primarily played the outfield, but he played the infield at times as well during his time with the Red Sox. He had all the tools for a high-level player. Betts could hit, run, and throw. He became a fan favorite in Boston.

During his time as a member of the Red Sox, he played in four straight All-Star games, won four consecutive Gold Glove awards, and won three Silver Slugger awards.
