NBA Star DeMar DeRozan Grew up Playing for a Famous Rapper

NBA star DeMar DeRozan has evolved into one of the league’s best. Ever since he entered the league, he has shown his athleticism and ability to score on offense.

DeRozan has been around basketball his entire life. Growing up in California, he had the opportunity to play for a well-known rapper.

DeMar DeRozan’s career in the NBA

DeRozan started his NBA career during the 2009-10 season. When the Toronto Raptors drafted him, they were excited because they saw the potential DeRozan had and believed he could become a great player in Toronto. In his rookie season, he didn’t quite meet the expectations that some people had, but that would quickly change. During his time in Toronto, he became one of the best guards in the league.

He spent his first nine seasons in Toronto, and that was his second home. DeRozan loved playing in Toronto, and the fans loved watching him play. Toronto got to watch him grow from a young rookie to an All-Star throughout the years. DeRozan helped the Raptors become one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference. His best year in Toronto was during the 2016-17 season, where he averaged a career-high 27.3 points per game. DeRozan quickly took his game to another level. Throughout the league, he was known as a competitor. He did what he had to do to put his team in the best position to win games.

When he was traded to the San Antonio Spurs, he hurt him a lot because he gave so much to the Raptors organization and helped rebuild that team. But at the end of the day, the NBA is a business, and he had to get ready to play for his new team. In his first season with the Spurs, he averaged 21.2 points, 6.2 assists, and six rebounds. During the 2019-20 season, he was averaging 22.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 5.6 assists. DeRozan will try to turn the Spurs back into a top team in the Western Conference. He certainly can do so playing for an organization and coach the knows how to win. Once the team buys in, the Spurs will be a top team in the west without a doubt.

DeMar DeRozan’s AAU days in California

Before DeRozan played his college basketball at USC, he was playing AAU for Percy Miller. Miller, also known as ‘Master P’, is a successful and well-known rapper. He also played in the NBA brief stint. Miller had his travel team that his son played on, and DeRozan and Miller’s son were very close.

On that AAU team, there was no question that DeRozan was the best player, and everyone knew it. DeRozan and Miller’s son formed a dynamic duo on the basketball court, and they gained a lot of media attention. Being around someone like Miller allowed DeRozan to see and experience the lavish lifestyle firsthand.

DeMar DeRozan learned a lot from playing under Master P

In an interview with Yahoo Sports, DeRozan talked about his experience playing for the music mogul. “I got to see both worlds. You see that lifestyle early on, and you realize, ‘This is what it is?’” DeRozan said. “I already had my mindset when I had nothing. It’s cool to have all that, but it’s all about the work and the grind to get to that.”

Miller knew that DeRozan was going to play in the NBA one day, and while he had the opportunity to coach him in high school, he wanted to let him know how his life will change, but never forget where you come from. DeRozan continues to work hard day in and day out because he knew that hard work got him to where he is today.
