NFL: A.J. Green Among 4 Players to be Trade Deadline Targets

The midway point of the 2019 season is quickly approaching, which has put the trade deadline in the upcoming picture being less than two weeks away. Several prominent names have been mentioned to be drawing plenty of interest around the league, especially after the Los Angeles Rams acquired Jalen Ramsey. Here are four names to watch out for that may be on the move this month.

Trent Williams

Beyond the Washington Redskins’ sluggish start to the 2019 season, one of the underlying storylines around the franchise has been the continued holdout from star offensive tackle Trent Williams.

It’s a situation that hasn’t had any clarity as Williams has stayed firm with his stance to garner a new lucrative extension from the Redskins. However, Washington hasn’t budged to work out the long-term deal that the seven-time Pro Bowler is eyeing.

The Redskins have stayed pat on holding onto Williams, but there are several teams that inquired about him with the latest rumor being that the Cleveland Browns are making a strong push. The next week should see more chatter around the entire matter.

A.J. Green

The Cincinnati Bengals have also gotten off to a porous start to the year, having dropped their first six games that have put them on the fast track to miss the playoffs for a fourth straight year.

It has placed some trade rumors around the Bengals star wideout for the first time in his career. Green has yet to play a single game this season due to an ankle injury, but he’s in the final year of his four-year, $60 million deal.

Several teams need help in the passing game, making the possible addition of the Pro Bowler a highly feasible option. When healthy, Green has proven to be one of the game’s best talents at his position that could step in as the No.1 receiving option for just about any team.

Cincinnati has made it known that they are not looking to trade the 31-year-old, but the right deal could come along that may be too good to pass up.

Patrick Peterson

Following the monster deal that sent Ramsey to the Rams, there could be plenty of movement in the cornerback market.

Teams like the Philadelphia Eagles are still looking for help in their secondary, which could put the All-Pro cornerback at the front of the list. Peterson is set to make his return from a six-game suspension due to PED use in Week 7, which hasn’t quieted down the trade chatter.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Arizona Cardinals have received calls from at least three teams voicing their interest in landing Peterson. He’s regarded as one of the game’s top cornerbacks, who could immediately make a substantial impact at just about any team..

Like Green, there should be plenty of discussions around possible deals to move the eight-time Pro Bowler.

Leonard Williams

The New York Jets are coming off their first win of the season after an impressive home win over the Dallas Cowboys.

However, there has been some lingering trade chatter around the team concerning the availability of the fifth-year defensive end, who is in the final year of his five-year, $18.6 million rookie deal. The Jets haven’t shut down the rumors around Williams, with head coach Adam Gase making some curious remarks regarding the situation.

The USC product has underperformed through much of the first four-plus seasons of his NFL career, which a change of scenery could finally put him on track.
