NFL Update: Patriots Josh Gordon and Julian Edelman Injured, Gordon Returns

The New England Patriots’ wide receiving depth took a major hit on Friday when the team decided to release Antonio Brown due to his off the field issues. The team’s wide receiving core took a few more hits in Sunday’s game against the New York Jets as both Julian Edelman and Josh Gordon were knocked out of the game with injuries.

Edelman left the game with a chest injury and is not expected to return. Before his departure, Edelman caught seven passes for 62 yards and a touchdown. It’s possible that the oft-injured wide receiver could have been kept out of the game as a precaution since the Patriots were already up 20-0 at the half, but it’s too early to tell the severity of his injury.

Josh Gordon exited the game with a hand injury shortly after Edelman. But after getting his ring and pinkie fingers taped together on the sideline, Gordon was able to return to the game. He even caught two passes for 31 yards after re-entering, helping lead the Patriots down the field on a touchdown drive that put New England up 30-0.
