In football, the quarterback is the most important position on the field for multiple reasons. In fantasy football, quarterbacks are becoming arguably the most important roster position due to their consistently high scoring totals. In fact, I would venture to guess that in most 2014 fantasy football leagues, the owners with Aaron Rodgers or Peyton Manning as their fantasy quarterbacks are near the top of the standings in their respective leagues.
As the playoffs are approaching in most leagues, it is becoming increasingly important to find the right matchups, and exploit them. Here is a look at four quarterbacks with favorable matchups in Week 12.
1. Jay Cutler, Chicago Bears
Cutler has been the definition of inconsistency, and in the spirit of honestly, his play has been vastly disappointing thus far in 2014. With that being said, his matchup in Week 12 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is very quarterback-friendly. The Bucs have given up an average of 17.5 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks and have statistically been one of the worst overall pass defenses in the NFL in 2014. It’s hard to trust Cutler at this point, but with this matchup, he’s worth the risk in Week 12.
2. Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers
As of late, it seems like no matter the opponent, anytime Rodgers steps on the field it’s a favorable matchup for the Packers signal-caller. He’s playing as good as he ever has, and has a loaded group of pass-catchers at his disposal. The seemingly only thing that could hold Rodgers back from another huge fantasy week in Week 12 is if the Packers jump out to a huge lead early and slow themselves down to run out the clock.
3. Andrew Luck, Indianapolis Colts
The Indianapolis offense goes as Andrew Luck goes, and Luck has been phenomenal in 2014. The Colts play the (1-9) Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 12, the same team that Luck lit up in Week 3, throwing for 370 yards and four touchdowns. The Colts have had a lackluster running game all year, and nothing has changed. Expect to see Luck throw the ball well over 30 times again this week resulting in another huge fantasy week for the third-year signal caller.
4. Josh McCown, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
McCown has quietly been an excellent fantasy performer since coming back from an early-season injury. In Week 12, he will be facing his former team, the Chicago Bears, who happen to be giving up the third-most fantasy points on average — 19.5 per game — to quarterbacks in 2014. Given Tampa Bay’s outstanding group of pass-catchers and Chicago’s pedestrian defense, it wouldn’t be the least bit surprising if McCown is one of the top performing fantasy quarterbacks in the league this week.
