Odell Beckham Jr. Believes 2020 Season Will Be ‘One of My Best’

It has been a bit of a whirlwind last several months for star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who went through his first season with the Cleveland Browns. There had been plenty of hype heading into the year, but there were many shortcomings along the way that led to internal issues becoming public. With that entire season in hindsight, Beckham Jr. has voiced some high aspirations for his second campaign in Cleveland.

In the months ahead of the 2019 season, the arrival of Beckham Jr. brought greater anticipation around what could unfold for the Browns.

There was massive hype that Cleveland could take a significant leap forward as not only a playoff team, but a Super Bowl contender. Things didn’t transpire in that manner as the Browns struggled to find consistent success, falling well short of the playoffs while internal issues began to take ahold of headlines around the franchise.

Beckham Jr. struggled at times to find his footing despite hitting north of 1,000 receiving yards for the fifth time in his career. He wasn’t able to play with the same level of physical presence as he was dealing with a groin injury that wound up requiring a sports hernia operation after the season.

In light of all that, Beckham Jr. has high aspirations for his second year in Cleveland.

Beyond the shortcomings on the field, there are many reasons why Beckham Jr. wants to turn the page.

It has been a tough offseason for the 27-year-old as he had to rehab back from a hip and groin injury. However, Beckham Jr. is more than ready to put forth what he believes will be one of his best seasons, according to Jake Trotter of ESPN.

“Right now what I’m trying to do is hit the reset button,” Beckham said in a video posted to his YouTube channel Monday. “Being able to just get everything fixed. Shoulder, arms, back, everything aligned, functional, moving properly, so I can begin training to be ready for the season.

“I would honestly say this is probably going to be one of my best seasons. Bigger, stronger, faster — this is my time.”

Beckham Jr. has dealt with nagging injuries over the last few seasons that have significantly impacted his performance on the field. He may finally move past all those lingering issues with a full offseason to get his body right before the 2020 campaign.

All that should set the table for him to bounce back in a significant way to help lift the Browns into playoff contention that they hoped to achieve last year.

The Browns have some strong optimism about what lies ahead this upcoming season after making some notable changes in the franchise.

The team has brought in a new head coach with Kevin Stefanski with the hope that it could push the offense forward. There were also needs along the offensive line that was addressed in this year’s draft to help further solidify their unit that had issues last season.

Meanwhile, Beckham Jr. can be a significant part of the offense now that he has some built chemistry with Baker Mayfield ahead of the 2020 campaign. The Browns have some talented players offensively with Beckham Jr., Jarvis Landry, Nick Chubb, and offseason addition Austin Hooper. It’s also a chance for Mayfield to bounce back after a rough second year that drew much criticism in his direction.

The pieces are in place for the team to take a notable step forward toward being a legitimate playoff contender in the AFC.
