Odell Beckham Jr.’s Former Browns Teammates React to the Rams Star Winning the Super Bowl: ‘True Cinderella Story’

Odell Beckham Jr. is a Super Bowl champion. Just let that sink in. People wrote him off toward the end of his tenure with the New York Giants and with the Cleveland Browns. Still, the Los Angeles Rams wide receiver rose to the occasion on the NFL’s biggest stage.

Even though things didn’t end on the best of terms in Cleveland, the Browns locker room still has a lot of love for OBJ. Beckham’s former teammates celebrated the special with him in spirit.

Odell Beckham Jr. left the game early but made a huge impact in the Super Bowl

After eight seasons, Odell Beckham Jr. finally made it to the Super Bowl, something he dreamt of his entire life. The LA Rams wideout certainly rose to the occasion, too.

Beckham didn’t waste any time impacting the 2022 Super Bowl. He scored the game’s first touchdown, making a contested catch over Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Mike Hilton for a 17-yard score. Quarterback Matthew Stafford later connected with OBJ again on a 35-yard catch and run in the second quarter.

Beckham appeared to be on pace for a Super Bowl MVP-worthy performance, as Cincinnati’s defense didn’t have an answer for him. Unfortunately, he went down with a non-contact knee injury that kept him out for the remainder of the game.

Losing the three-time Pro Bowler was a massive hit for the Rams offense. Stafford and company had a rough go of it in the following possessions, with OBJ forced to watch from the sideline. Ultimately, LA pulled it out with a late fourth-quarter touchdown pass from Stafford to Cooper Kupp to take a 23-20 lead.

Overcome with emotion, Odell Beckham Jr. celebrated getting to the mountaintop. The opportunity wouldn’t have been possible if not for the Cleveland Browns releasing him earlier in the season.

Browns players react to OBJ getting a ring

The Cleveland Browns’ 2021 season featured more drama than good football. At the center of most of it was Baker Mayfield and Odell Beckham Jr. The latter didn’t appear happy with his situation, and the organization didn’t seem too interested in fighting to keep the disgruntled wideout.

While Beckham and the Browns separated, many of his former teammates were rooting for him to beat the Bengals in the Super Bowl. After the game, several players took to Twitter to celebrate OBJ getting a ring.

“For some people to be saying OBJ doesn’t deserve it, y’all are insane,” said linebacker Mack Wilson. “I understand it’s the people on the outside looking in that doesn’t know what type of teammate he is, what he meant to us as a team, and also what type of guy he was off the field. So please shut up!”

Tight end David Njoku, who shared a huddle with Beckham, also weighed in on the moment.

“True Cinderella story,” Njoku tweeted. “Congrats to the Rams and my brother @OBJ. What a crazy a** year!! Much respect.”

Other players posted congratulatory messages, including cornerback Greg Newsome II and Beckham’s close friend Jarvis Landry. Clearly, OBJ’s former teammates were happy to see him win after a tumultuous start to the season.

Odell Beckham Jr.’s path to the Super Bowl was a bumpy ride with plenty of twists and turns. After fallouts with the New York Giants and Cleveland Browns, it was unclear what would be next for the 2014 Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Beckham was unstoppable in his first three seasons in the NFL. After voicing his frustrations and being demonstrative during games, he fell out of favor with the Giants front office. The trade to Cleveland seemed to be a fresh start but ended up putting him in a worse situation football-wise, as he and Baker Mayfield didn’t click.

It wasn’t until the Browns released OBJ that he truly got a fresh start. For the first time in his career, Beckham was able to pick his destination. Joining the LA Rams was the best possible move for his career.

Head coach Sean McVay and company displayed the utmost belief in Beckham’s abilities. The Rams put him in every position to succeed. The star receiver selflessly bought in, and he earned himself a Super Bowl ring as a result.

Now, Odell Beckham Jr. has increased his value around the league and changed the narrative that unfairly plagued him throughout his career.
