Ohio State QB Justin Fields Has Been a Star Since Netflix Show QB1: Beyond the Lights

Justin Fields had an impressive season for Ohio State last year. He led the Buckeyes to the College Football Playoffs and lost an epic battle to Clemson. During his sophomore year, he finished the season as a Heisman Trophy finalist.

The Georgia native was the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year and Quarterback of the Year. He became the first quarterback in Big Ten history with 40 passing touchdowns and ten rushing touchdowns in the same season. Fields did all of this in his first year with Ohio State.

Fields has lived up to high expectations since his high school career. During his senior year, he was on a Netflix series called QB1: Beyond the Lights. The show follows three high school top quarterbacks who will play at the Division I level when they get to college.

The two other quarterbacks on the show with Justin Fields

Justin Fields was rated as the No. 2 overall player and the nation’s top-ranked dual-threat quarterback prospect going into his senior year of high school. The Netflix show followed each quarterback throughout their entire senior season.

The camera’s and media attention did not phase Fields as he went on to win the 2018 Mr. Georgia Football award. He would finish his high school career totaling 4,187 passing yards, 41 passing touchdowns, 2,096 rushing yards and 28 rushing touchdowns in two years as a starter for Harrison High School.

The other two quarterbacks that were featured with Fields were Sam Hartman and Re-al Mitchell. Hartman is currently a redshirt sophomore at Wake Forest, and Mitchell last played at Iowa State. Mitchell announced in January that he was going to transfer from Iowa State. Looking at their college careers, there’s no question that Fields is having the most success.

How Justin Fields ended up at Ohio State?

Fields was originally committed to the University of Georgia, and he played there his freshman year. He played in 12 of 14 games as a true freshman and was named to the coaches’ freshman All-SEC Team. Fields decided to transfer because Jake Fromm was going to remain the started quarterback at Georgia.

That decision to transfer proved to be the right move by Fields. One reason why Fields transferred to Ohio State was head coach Ryan Day. Day has experience coaching quarterbacks on the NFL level, and Fields wanted to play for someone with his knowledge of the game. Fields is also good friends with former Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins, and they talked about Coach Day and what it was like playing at Ohio State.

The face of Ohio State

What Justin Fields did in his first year at Ohio State was remarkable, and he will have the college football world ready to see what’s in store next season. Fields can beat you in so many ways. His ability to throw and run is what makes him so dominant.

With Ohio State just missing out on the National Championship last year, they will be hungry to get back to the college football playoffs this upcoming season.
