Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields wants to play football this upcoming fall. The Big Ten recently announced that the college football season for fall 2020 is canceled due to concerns regarding the coronavirus pandemic. There are plans to hold the college season during the spring, but Fields wants it to happen in the fall.

Coming out of high school, Fields was a top high-school football recruit. He was rated the No. 2 overall player in the class of 2018 and the nation’s top-ranked dual-threat quarterback. Fields was rated a five-star recruit by every major recruiting service. He committed to the University of Georgia and played in 12 games as a true freshman in 2018. During his freshman year, he completed 27-of-39 passes for 328 yards and four touchdowns, and he also rushed for four touchdowns. He was named to the coaches’ freshman All-SEC Team.

After spending his freshman season at Georgia, Fields decided to transfer to Ohio State in January of 2019. During his time at Georgia, Fields served as the backup to Jake Fromm, and Fields felt that is was best for him to transfer and became a starting quarterback. When he joined the football team at Ohio State, he wasted no time in showing why he should be the starting quarterback.

In his sophomore year, Fields helped Ohio State become one of the top teams in college football. He had a breakout season as the starting quarterback. Fields became the third Ohio State quarterback in the last 50 years to win each of his first 13 games. At the quarterback position, Fields displayed arm strength and ability to run the ball.

Fields is very poised in the pocket and made the right reads during his first year at Ohio State. He had one of the best seasons statistically at Ohio State. Fields completed 67.2 percent of his passes for 3,273 yards and had a total of 51 touchdowns (41 passing and 10 rushing). He became the first quarterback in Big Ten history with 40 passing touchdowns and 10 rushing touchdowns in the same season.

Fields helped lead Ohio State to the College Football Playoffs, where they battled against a tough Clemson team and ended up losing 29-23. He was a 2019 Heisman Trophy finalist and was the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year and the Griese-Brees Quarterback of the Year.

On Sunday, Fields started a petition to reinstate the fall season. Fields went to Twitter and posted a link to where people can sign the petition. Over 150,000 people signed the petition.

When Fields created the petition, that received a lot of attention across social media, and here you have one of college football’s biggest starts pushing for the season to start in the fall. There hasn’t been any word on when the Big Ten will decide on if they will have a season in the spring. There are college players like Fields who want to play during the fall. With this pandemic, a lot of things are up in the air and are not for certain.
