Christian McCaffrey’s strong start to NFL career

Since entering the NFL, McCaffrey has not only proven to be one of the best players from his draft class but also that he belongs among the elite talents in the league.

McCaffrey had plenty of questions concerning whether his style of play would translate to success at the next level, which has more than proven to be the case. The 23-year-old has showcased his ability to be a dual-threat asset out of the backfield behind his remarkable athleticism and big-play ability both regards.

That has set the table for him to put forth his best campaign this season as he’s the league leader in rushing as he entered Week 12 action with 1,059 yards and 11 touchdowns along with 59 catches for 517 receiving yards and three touchdowns. During the matchup against the Saints, McCaffrey added an exclusive mark to his brief NFL career.

Christian McCaffrey joins Chuck Foreman

Throughout the 2019 season, McCaffrey has continued to rack up numerous historic feats behind his stellar production.

Following his one-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter against the Saints, he joined former Minnesota Vikings Pro Bowl running back Chuck Foreman for a rare feat in NFL history, according to NFL Research.

This career mark just further emphasizes McCaffrey’s unique ability to be a huge factor out of the backfield both as a runner and receiver. His production has been taken to the next level this season as he has now tallied more than 1,000 rushing yards in the last two years and more than 500 receiving yards in all three of his first three campaigns.

There isn’t another running back that has mirrored what McCaffrey has been able to do in 2019. All of that has rightfully put him in the thick of the MVP conversation.

Christian McCaffrey fortifying MVP bid

As the 2019 season progresses along, the MVP conversation has become quite crowded, with many players making cases to earn the unique honor.

It has been largely a conversation dominated by quarterbacks, with the likes of Lamar Jackson, Russell Wilson, Deshaun Watson and Aaron Rodgers making strong arguments behind their play and team’s high amount of success. That brushed aside McCaffrey’s career-best campaign, which has already put him in the record books for several NFL feats.

McCaffrey has been the primary reason for the Panthers being in playoff contention, which that dependency on a single player has been a deciding factor for the MVP award over the years. He has also put himself on pace to also break the all-time single mark for most scrimmage yards, which was set by Chris Johnson, where he won the honor in the 2009 campaign.

Despite all that, the focus has remained on Jackson, Wilson, and even Rodgers ahead of him in the conversation. It has also been an award that has been prominently dominated by quarterbacks that has seen Adrian Peterson as the only other position player to earn the award.

With there being roughly more weeks left in the regular season, it presents an opportunity for him to put together an ironclad case to be named MVP.
